MVP: Trey Thomas, Team Loaded DC
2022 guard Trey Thomas is starting to come into his own early into the AAU season with his Team Loaded DC 15U squad. He is the MVP standout for All-Maryland squads after he averaged 19.3 points per game on the weekend. He’s already got offers from Oklahoma State, Rhode Island, IUPUI, Murray State, Wyoming and Lamar.
First Team:
C: Matt Rogers, 2020, Mid-Atlantic Select
Big man Matt Rogers showed off an array of skills on offense for the Mid-Atlantic Select 17U squad this past weekend. The 6-foot-8 big man impressed with his ability to play the stretch-4 position and make 15-20 footers with relative ease. His outside shot is something that’s developing as well. On the interior, he’s got good hands around the rim and tough finishing ability.
F: Noah Batchelor, 2022, Mid-Atlantic Select
Noah Batchelor is one player in the 2022 class whose stock should rise a ton this AAU season. With his size and athleticism at 6-foot-5, he has the ability to play the combo guard position and guard multiple positions on the floor. His outside shot is an underrated quality that teams will need to key in on or he’ll make you pay. He likes to play above the rim as well and finishes strong above the rim.
F: Lincoln Ball, GW Commit, Mid-Atlantic Select
George Washington commit Lincoln Ball showcased his skills this past weekend and showed why he’s a Division 1 player. He can score with relative ease on all three levels off the catch and off the dribble. He’s got playmaking ability as well with his 6-foot-4 frame. On defense, he’s an underrated defender.
G: Marcellus “Chi Chi” Avery, 2020, Team Loaded DC
Marcellus “Chi Chi” Avery is an intriguing prospect at the guard position. He showed flashes of his ability to handle and score the ball as well as defending multiple positions. Avery can rebound, defend and run the floor with pace. He scored 29 points in the Gold Division semifinals and averaged 17.7 points per game through the weekend.
G: Trey Thomas, 2022, Team Loaded DC
Trey Thomas set himself apart from the rest of the group this past weekend with his performance for his Team Loaded DC squad. He was the ultimate floor general in leading his team to a comeback victory in the Gold Division 16U championship game. He scored 17 points and had a key number of assists down the stretch. He’s a rising prospect coaches should keep an eye on.
Second Team:
C: David Onanina, 2022, Washington D.C.
David Onanina is an emerging big man prospect with a relentless motor on the interior that improves by the game. He didn’t score in bunches, but when given the basketball, he showed tremendous touch on his shot around the rim. On defense, he’s a bruiser that will meet opponents at the rim and rebound at a high level.
F: Quinton Mincey, 2020, Mid-Atlantic Select
Quinton Mincey is another emerging prospect at the forward position. He’s got good length at 6-foot-6 with a wiry frame and has the ability to guard the 2-4 position. He can play the wing on offense and post up down low as well. As he starts to show his versatility and untapped potential, he should start getting attention soon from college coaches.
F: Jomo Goings, 2022, Team Loaded DC
Jomo Goings is an emerging wing prospect that can get to the rim and shoot the 3 with efficiency. He played second fiddle to Trey Thomas and complemented him well with his ability to make reads off the defense and find shots. He’s got length as well with his size at 6-foot-4.
G: MarQuay Pixley, 2022, MetroBall DC
MarQuay Pixley was relentless on both ends for his MetroBall DC 15U squad in the backcourt. He showed toughness with his ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. He also showed a nice stroke from behind the arc, making five 3-pointers on the weekend. He’s one guard from MetroBall DC to keep an eye on.
G: Jacob Morgan, 2022, MetroBall DC
Heart over height was the motto for young freshman guard Jacob Morgan as he led his team to victory over Team Loaded NC. Morgan put up 26 points including the game-winning 3-pointer against Loaded NC to propel his team to victory. He’s an emerging floor general that plays bigger than his height at 5-foot-8.
