Fear not for Coach Doug Mitchell’s Knights, though:
There isn’t going to be much in the way of “slippage” in the backcourt in the 2019-20 season.
That’s because Vazquez’ brother is scheduled to be in uniform.
Jalen Vazquez, who got a lot of time for Mitchell this past season when Hunt and/or his brother were injured, looked every bit the part of one of the very best point guards in the California Class of 2022 during his appearance at the May 18 Pangos “Best of SoCal Spring Showcase” in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church gymnasium.
The 6-foot-1 Vazquez scored 19 points in the Freshman game, while displaying his usual superb playmaking decisions and on-ball defense.
Other standouts in the game included Christian Moore (Brentwood School) and Jorge Ochoa (Orange Lutheran).
The 6-4 Moore, a member of the BurlisonOnBasketball all-SoCal Freshman, first team, showcased his variety of on and off-the-ball skills that he displayed so ably as a freshman for Coach Ryan Bailey’s Brentwood squad.
And the 6-7 Ochoa showed why, with 7-footer Makur Maker and several other seniors departing the program, he should have a productive sophomore season for Coach Chris Nordstrom’s Lancers in the o-so-tough Trinity League.
Among the other qualify performances turned in during the game were those by guard Nate Perez (Saugus) and forward Malachi Scott (Long Beach Jordan).
