PF Dawson Garcia (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Garcia is one of the top power forwards in the country so it isn’t a surprise to anyone that he shined at Battle, but in the two games we saw he was mighty impressive! He has excellent positional size at 6’11” along with his versatile offensive repertoire. Quality three point shooter that spaces the defense with his shot making. Can score off the bounce with his long strides getting to the cup. Runs the floor with ease. On the block he makes quick moves before the defense can even get set. Five-star type talent.
SG Kerwin Walton (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Walton is a two guard that has impressed us each time we have evaluated him over the last couple years. He is a three and D wing for sure! Elite perimeter defender that locks down on that end of the floor. Often uses his length to get in passing lanes and disrupt his opponents trying to make plays. Offensively he proved to be a plus shooter from three especially off the catch drilling multiple each game we saw.
C Steven Crowl (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Crowl stands at 6’10” with a long and lanky frame. He came off the bench for D1 Minnesota, but is a prospect that is receiving attention from mid-major and high-major programs. What you have to like about him is how well he can stretch the floor with his shooting for his size along with finishing around the hoop. Runs the floor well receiving several dishes in transition for dunks.
C Xavier Foster (Pure Prep 17U)
Foster was one of the highest ranked prospects at the event and lived up to the billing when we saw him. The seven footer is a top 30 prospect nationally. Broad shoulders and a strong frame. Moves well for his size and is a solid athlete. Threw down several huge dunks. Good hands catching passes in traffic. Hit one three when we were watching. Shot blocking presence that can really protect the rim!
C Max Murrell (Team Factory 17U)
Murrell is flying under the radar nationally. This 6’9” Nebraska native plays almost as a face up five man. Plus shooter from three as he shoots it with a lot of confidence. Can put it on the deck when defenders close hard on him. Very athletic for his size and is an effective rebounder.
C Even Brauns (Iowa Barnstormers 17U)
It wasn’t a dominant game for Brauns, but we really like the upside of this center from Iowa. He actually closed out the game hitting the winning shot on an alley-oop that he put in at the buzzer. In the second half against Team Factory Brauns showed several skilled post moves including a quick spin on the block. Snatches rebounds out of the air.
SG Camden Heide (D1 Minnesota 16U)
This was our first look at the 2022 shooting guard from Minnesota. He was playing up on the 16U level, but was clearly the best prospect on his team. Struggled in the first half, but picked it up as the game went along. We can see why a lot of Midwest high-majors are intrigued. Size and plus athleticism. Projectable frame. Heide displayed an absolutely lethal mid-range game drilling 15 foot jumpers and runners at a high level.
G Chucky Hepburn (Team Factory 16U)
Hepburn carried his team to the 16U championship. The combo guard went for 18 points in the semis when we saw him. Shifty guard that has crisp ball handling to go along with his compact strength. Sound shooter from three and is powerful attacking off the bounce.
SF Johnny Davis (Wisconsin Playground Club 17U)
Davis is a freak show athlete! He shows it off at least once every game with a rim rattling slam. Like the “Tiger Roar” in golf there is definitely the “Davis Dunk Roar” when WPC is playing. The best of the weekend was a baseline take that he slammed home on the other side. Best winning off the dribble and getting out in transition. Can defend multiple positions and rebounds very well for a wing in traffic snatching 50/50 balls out of the air consistently.
