A bunch of solid prospects took part in the action.
Here is a look at Part 3 of the standout performer’s list.
ICYMI:
Elhadji Mor Seck (DME/DME Blue)
Playing with a DME mixed group called DME Blue, the 2022 7’1″ center Elhadji Mor Seck is an intriguing prospect. Offered by Oklahoma State in late March, the DME freshman certainly stands out on the court whether he has the ball in his hands or not. His length is undeniable and with only one year of basketball under his belt, there is still a lot of work to be done. But he has time and his upside is there.
David Green (Ocoee/1Family 17U)
The progression from 2020 6’7″ Ocoee forward David Green has been quite evident. Green is a superb outside shooter for his size and frame and his ability to see the floor and get up and down in transition is impressive. I saw him twice this weekend and he was equally good both times. Green is a lock to pick up Division I offers here shortly.
Bryce Johnson (Lake Nona/Final Chapter)
Shooting is a specialty and for 2021 6’2″ Lake Nona guard Bryce Johnson can flat out hurt you from long range. In the final game of the weekend, the sophomore scored 29 points which included seven 3’s in a victory over the Tampa Titans. Johnson has a nice smoothness as an attacker as well, but his top strength is his jumper. He was making 3’s even with defenders in his face.
Myles Smith (Impact Christian/Jacksonville Game Changers)
There are some high school wings that can’t move well in open space, but 2020 6’5″ Impact Christian forward Myles Smith can get open and create all on his own. Routinely in a matchup with Tony Bradley Elite, Smith was hitting the mid-range well and getting inside often. He was solid for the entire outing for the Jacksonville Game Changers.
Calvin Cooper (Eastside/GameSpeed Elite 15U)
Passing for 2022 5’9″ Eastside guard Calvin Cooper is easy. The GameSpeed Elite 15U guard didn’t score that much in a game against the Brevard Bulls. However, he was highly smart as a passer and he really opened the floor for his teammates. Expect Cooper to get many opportunities to lead his offense at Eastside in the fall.
Carlin Gelin (Melbourne/Brevard Bulls)
In the game against GameSpeed Elite 15U (mentioned above), 2022 6’5″ Melbourne forward Carlin Gelin has tools to be a contributor awfully soon. He likes to get inside and attack and with his size and strength and he can do it often. He’ll have to continue to improve his moves down low and his jumper, but Gelin certainly has a chance to be a good piece.
Mike Contiz (Seminole/Team Speights 15U)
For a really tough and well-formed Team Speights 15U unit, 2022 6’2″ Seminole guard Mike Contiz came up clutch in a come from behind win over Team South Carolina. Contiz hit a trio of 3’s late in the second half as Team Speights 15U rallied from a double-digit deficit. His confidence is high and he really is a difference maker as a quickfire shooter.
Jamar Houston (Central Florida Christian/Heart N’ Hustle)
2022 6’0″ Central Florida Christian Jamar Houston had a dunk that made the Mainland gym erupt. The loud screaming from the fans went on for nearly a minute. Not big or tall, Houston can flat out fly as a superb athlete. He’ll attend Central Florida Christian this fall, the reigning Class 2A champions.
Randy Caldwell (Legacy Early College/Team South Carolina)
A dual-sport athlete between basketball and football, 2022 South Carolina Legacy Early College guard/forward Randy Caldwell is one built kid. At 6’4″, he’s able to mix it up as a shooter from the mid-range and as a slasher. He’s very poised for his age and someone who projects as a factor in both sports with his aggression and IQ.
