Armani Jones- A Star in the Making
After his meteoric rise, Armani Jones is ready to make an even bigger splash as his sophomore campaign and the thick of AAU season approaches. Due to a great start to his high school career, Jones has already garnered some respect from big-time college programs. “I got interest from Grambling State UWM and Virginia,” said Jones. The list of interested colleges is sure to expand as Jones grows and improves as a player.
This spring and summer, Armani Jones will be playing with Phenom U, which is one of the top AAU programs in the nation. Playing for Phenom University will give Jones a huge advantage; allowing Jones to practice against some of the best competition the sport has to offer. “They want me to get better and work hard and become a complete point guard,” stated the 5’8″ maestro.
With Jalen Johnson, Jamari Sibley, Jaemyn Brakefield, and Patrick Baldwin Jr. all playing on Phenom’s 17U team, Jones has a chance to be the next player to carry the torch of greatness. Jones wants to focus on becoming a better teammate and point guard. “I want to improve on becoming more vocal and being a leader. I think I’ve got to step up my leadership because in order to be a complete point guard I’ve got to be a leader and hold my teammates accountable,” stated Jones.
Armani Jones has already had a sterling start to his career, but he has much more that he wants to accomplish by the time his sophomore season is over. “My personal goals next season are to be top 3 in the state. I also want to win a state championship. If I can, I want to try to score 1,000 points by the end of my sophomore year.” With a great freshman season already under his belt, all of these goals are well within reach for Jones.
In order to become great, you need to follow greatness and Armani Jones models his game after one of the best point guards ever. “I try to model my game after Allen Iverson. He was a killer and didn’t back down from anybody. I always watch highlights of him and try to steal his moves and become a better scorer from him.” At just 5’8″, Jones’ killer attitude will allow him to play much bigger than his size.
Averaging 16.3 points per game as a freshman while being the catalyst for his squad, Armani Jones has the potential to blossom into one of the best players in the 2022 class, regardless of state or position.
