AAU Weekend Recap: Memorial Day Edition (May 24-27)
The last meaningful weekend of AAU just finished up yesterday. Here’s a quick recap of how teams fared and who the top performers were for each team. They’re presented in no particular order and are just the results who were sent to us. If your favorite team isn’t mentioned, make sure to DM us results after each weekend!
The Kentucky Titans went 3-1 at the Adidas Chicago Classic, losing in the semifinals. Male’s Justin Buford led the team in scoring at 15 points per game on the weekend and Collegiate’s Drew Manning led the team in assists.
Iam3rd Ice had both their 2020 teams playing at KBC this weekend for their Ballin’ in the Bluegrass event. Both the Blue and White teams went 3-1. The white team won the Gold bracket. Neil Baker of Scott County continued his strong play for the summer. For the Blue team, Alex Schalch averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game for the weekend.
The Fort Campbell Snipers 17u went 2-2 at the Prep Hoops Show Me Showdown. Junior Nash Divine had 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Snipers.
15u LKU played in the Ballin in the Bluegrass at KBC. They finished 1-2 for the weekend. Braden Timmering of North Oldham scored 18,15 and 12 in 3 games, hitting 11-16 from 3 and 16-27 from the field overall.
CKY Magic won the Ballin in the Bluegrass 17u with a strong weekend from Amari Taylor of Tates Creek. Anthony Tabor of the Magic was named MVP of the tournament.
Vision Elite 17u lost in the semifinals at KBC. Trey Minter of Butler had games of 28, 23 and 25 while Parker Rice of Butler County had a game high of 16 points. Minter continues to have a high scoring and productive AAU season.
Up Next 2021 out of Hopkinsville went 4-1 at the Chicago Adidas event. They had multiple quality wins before losing to Indiana Elite by 9. Alijah Watts scored 35 points against D1 Minnesota while Amani McGee averaged 14 per game.
DSP Heat 2022 finished 3-2 at the Adidas Atlanta Memorial Day Classic. No stats or standouts were provided.
Kentucky Defenders 16u went 3-2 at the Show Me Showdown in St. Louis, losing in the Gold Bracket championship. Blake Robinson of Grant County and Dominick White of Marion County were above 10 points and 6 rebounds per game all weekend.
Charlotte Court 17u went 2-1 at the KBC event in Lexington. Nathan Mack, Brett Norvell and Taylor Spurlock were cited as top players while Bryan Station’s James Lindsey earned high praise for his play all weekend. The Charlotte Court 16u group played in Louisville and Myles Morones was a standout all weekend. He scored 20+ in 3 of 4 games and had 2 double figure rebounding games.
Manimal Elite 17u and 16u both went 4-1 this weekend at the Adidas Atlanta Memorial Day event before losing in the championship bracket. Kenny White and Tyren Moore were the top players for the 2020 team while Isaiah Mason had another good outing for the 2021 bunch.
The Ville 17u features a trio of Kentucky kids. The Ville’s 2020 group went 4-1 on the weekend with a Silver division Championship.
Louisville Magic 16u went 3-1 on the weekend with 3 double figure wins before falling at the buzzer to the Atlanta Celtics at their Adidas Memorial Event. Kale Gaither, Hunter Penn and Dez Lindsay played well while Braeden Ray shot the ball well.
Kentucky Ambition didn’t provide a record for the weekend but did let us know that Casey Steadmon was strong all weekend with 20 points and 11 rebounds per game for 15u. Sam Campbell averaged 22 points and 8 rebounds per game for the 16u team and Stephen Moore averaged 23 points and 11 assists per game for the 17u group.
Pride Athletics had a good weekend in Lexington. The 15u lost in the championship game of the top bracket to B Maze Elite. Before that they won 4 games. Andrew Floyd of Raceland averaged 18 points and 7 rebounds per game on the weekend. The Pride 16u went 0-3 while missing their point guard. Austin Chiles of Ballard averaged 18 points per game on the weekend. The 17u Pride group were forced to play most of the weekend with only 5 players, eventually losing to Vision Elite in bracket play. Blake Stewart of Boyd County played well, averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals per game. Noah Back also added 16 points per game.
