Tulsa Hawks Blue 16U, a team I had not previously seen this summer, impressed me in a few places of its game in a losing contest with D1 Prospects (Houston, Texas) Saturday morning. Individually, both Eli Wallace (6-2 PG; Bishop Kelley HS) and Elliot Andrew (5-10 W; Holland Hall) had outstanding performances as the duo scored 20 and 15 points, respectively, and despite losing, finished first and second among all scorers in the match. The backcourt tandem combined for eight made 3-pointers and nearly erased a late 14-point deficit in an applause-laden comeback bid.
The Team Buddy Buckets 16U crew continued on its rampage through the Southeast region with a pair of mercy-rule wins against Texas Elite DJH5 and West Texas Blazers. Leading the floor was the two-headed beast that is Ethan Scott (5-10 PG; Westmoore HS, pictured above) and Sean Pedulla (6-1 PG; Edmond Memorial HS), who combined for an astonishing 13-of-15 3-point shooting performance against West Texas Blazers. On the wings, Dalante Shannon (6-2 W; Edmond North HS) and Sean Franklin (6-3 W; Edmond Santa Fe HS) drew defenders to the corners with explosive scoring streaks of their own, including a 17-point outburst from Shannon in the early game. An 11-point effort from Jaden Bray (6-3 G; Norman HS) in that game kept the Texas Elite defense restless and unsettled, allowing Buddy Buckets to cruise to the win. Israel Hart (6-0 PG; Midwest City HS) was also a significant contributor off-the-bench. The newly-added sophomore fit into the scheme with great on-ball defensive skills, passing and floor leadership abilities as his allowance for Scott and Pedulla’s relief was undoubtedly refreshing for the pair.
Though I was unable to see his performance in person, Maddox Macklenburg (5-10 G; Kingfisher HS) also had a notable day for Oklahoma Swarm Elite 14U against Eclipse 2023. An eighth-grader, Mecklenburg became one of the frontrunners of the incoming freshman class when he scored 17 points today on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arch Saturday morning. Mecklenburg added 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists to his resume, as well, in the feat.
