The gyms were loaded with numerous teams, some of which included very talented prospects. In this article, Brandon Jenkins gives his observations on the prospects who stood out from the 2022 class:
PREP HOOPS TEXAS APOLOGIZES TO 3D EMPIRE
In our initial Prep Hoops Texas Top 25 player rankings, there was not a single prospect from 3D Empire ranked. When we updated the rankings in February, we felt Nazir Brown deserved a spot within the top 25 after a stellar freshman season at L.D. Bell. Today, we realized that we have been very disrespectful to the 3D Empire program after watching each prospect within their “Big Three” perform well against the best 15U teams within the region. Each prospect wanted all the smoke and deserves a spot in the 2022 player rankings and here is why:
Anthony Black – Shooting Guard – Coppell
3D Empire’s featured prospects are always known for their ability to shoot the basketball, which Black has no problem doing. However, he made his case with his competitiveness defensively and upside athletically. The 6-foot-3 guard has active hands and will poke balls loose if opponents are being lackadaisical with the rock. He also displayed the ability to get off the floor well in transition.
Ryan Agarwal – Small Forward – Coppell
My guy Andre Powe already labeled Agarwal as the best shooter he saw at the event and deservingly so. The 6-foot-6 wing reminds me of D.J. Hogg without the functional strength. As his body matures and he realizes what he is capable of, the sky is the limit.
Naz Brown – Point Guard– L.D. Bell
Naz Brown is currently ranked the number twelve player in the Prep Hoops Texas 25. He proved why he is highly regarded in the state in each game he played this weekend. He used his strong body and skill to equip buckets in a variety of ways. At times, he settled for the long ball, but when he looked to attack, the defense could not do anything with him.
OTHER STANDOUTS
B.B. Knight – Shooting Guard – Nike JL3 Elite 15U (EYBL) – 2022
Knight has already solidified himself as one of the best shooters in the state for his class. His positional size at his age is also a plus. He connected on nearly all of his open opportunities and uses his body to his advantage throughout the weekend.
Jay Cofer – Point Guard – Mudiay Elite 15U (UAA) – 2022
Cofer was terrific on Sunday morning leading his squad to a one-point overtime victory over Nike Pro Skills 15U (EYBL). The lefty guard was strong with the rock in his hands and slashed to the basket at will. He constantly had defenders on his hip while attacking and either made the drop-off pass or finished with soft floaters inside. Cofer separated himself from his peers scoring a game-high 24 points in the contest.
