Coach Dave Evans’ first year at the helm was an absolute success. The number 5 ranked Wasatch Academy squad finished the season 26-4 with an elite resume under their belt.
Although a lot of Wasatch Academy’s roster has played in high level tournaments this might have been one of the biggest stages for them. Falling to the # 4 ranked Oak Hill team that featured one of the best players in the country in Cole Anthony and they fell two possessions short 76-79.
The player that was able to burst on to the scene nationally was local product 2020 Richie Saunders. The Riverton High School transfer has always been a good player but he was not just shooting the ball well, he was scoring off the dribble as well. The 6’5 SG proved he is a Division 1 prospect as his game has elevated since joining Wasatch Academy.
Another bright spot for Wasatch Academy was Mike Saunders Jr. had 22 points going head to head with Cole Anthony. He was 7-10 shooting and was able to get to the free-throw line 10 times.
Wasatch Academy will be back and they will reload. This team is full of talent that returns next year.
