Continue ReadingThis past year, Jaeden Zackery was one of the top players in Wisconsin high school basketball. Zackery had a great high school career, but his senior season is where he really created disparity between himself and other prospects. In his senior campaign, Zackery averaged 21.5 points per game, while shooting an efficient 61 percent from the field. He also led his team, Westosha Central, to a conference championship and a number one seed in the WIAA playoffs.
Prep Hoops Wisconsin was able to contact the star guard to ask him some questions about his college basketball future.
Zackery has not committed, but this does not come from a lack of college interest. The guard says that South Dakota St., Loyola Chicago, and Lindenwood have been recruiting him the hardest lately. He also says Concordia St. Paul, Parkside, Oshkosh, and some others are still involved in his recruitment. Zackery currently has visits planned for South Dakota St., Loyola Chicago, and Lindenwood.
Jaeden Zackery already possesses most of the intangibles that college scouts look for in a lead guard. He is a good passer, defender, and shooter. Despite this, his work remains unfinished. “(I would like to) Just keep improving and increasing my range,” he said. Zackery shot 41 percent from deep last year and shot 38 percent from three in his career. If he continues to improve on his long-range shot, it could be another deadly weapon used to torture his defenders.
While many of his peers are 100 percent focused on playing at the D-1 level, Zackery admits that playing at the highest level is not the most important to him. “It’s more important to me to just find a place that feels like another home rather than the highest level. But if I end up reaching higher levels I’ll be thankful,” he conceded. Zackery also says that he is planning on making his final college decision around May or June.
Because he improved markedly over the course of his high school career, it is hard to imagine that Jaeden Zackery won’t be bankable at the school of his choice. The sterling guard is on track to roll over his success into college. Regardless of which school he eventually chooses to attend, Zackery will have a chance to make an immediate impact as soon as he sets foot on campus.
