PG Jalen Suggs (Grassroots Sizzle – 2020)
Suggs was the best player at the event and it wasn’t close! The top 5 overall 2020 recruit made a statement against another highly rated point guard and a stacked Team Rio squad in the final game of the weekend. He put his team on his back and blew out Team Rio with one of the best single game performances I have seen in a long time. Suggs sliced up the defense doing anything he wanted. Got to the rim winning off the bounce at will where he made tough layups while regularly getting fouled. Displayed elite vision always having his head up to make a play. He is a great playmaker with the ball in his hands. The two areas I think that set him apart are his defense and rebounding. Defensively he recorded half a dozen steals taking many of them the other way for scores including a 360 windmill. So active and engaged on that end of the floor. He is an elite level rebounder with his ability to high point them in traffic and start the break on his own. Suggs looked like a potential #1 overall player nationally at UAA Session 1.
C Chet Holmgren (Grassroots Sizzle – 2021)
Holmgren was an absolute force. This rail thin 6’11” center blocked everything that came in the lane. I mean EVERYTHING!!!!! Holmgren swatted 15 shots on Friday night! It might be the most I have ever seen in any game in high school basketball. Louisiana Elite kept coming inside and he kept turning it away. What was most impressive is I don’t think he had a foul called on any attempt all night. Consistently was straight up and down on the blocks. Offensively he displayed pick and pop range knocking down multiple threes and slammed home two powerful alley-oops in the early going. Needs to continue to add strength and improve as a rebounder. He had 19 points and 15 blocks on the night.
SF Prince Aligbe (Grassroots Sizzle – 2022)
Aligbe is a strong 6’4” shooting guard with plus athleticism. He was best at playing above the rim catching lobs from Suggs and using his toughness to get offensive rebound put backs. Bright future for this freshman forward.
SG Kaden Johnson (Grassroots Sizzle – 2020)
Johnson stands at 6’4” and the 2020 shooting guard displayed flashes on Friday night. Thick bodied wing that is physical taking it downhill and was a decent passer.
PG Jalen Cook (Louisiana Elite – 2020)
Cook is a dynamic lead guard who got things going for Louisiana Elite early on Friday night. The point guard is a sound jump shooter that knocked down three triples in the first quarter. He is a solid ball handler that is almost like a bowling ball with the rock in his hands. Strong throughout the lane and finished through contact on his way to 16 points.
PG Carvell Teasett (Louisiana Elite – 2020)
Teasett ignited the Louisiana Elite run that would ultimately get them the victory on the first night of the event. Quick twitched point guard knocked down several momentum swinging threes along with floaters in the lane.
SF Thomas Howell (Louisiana Elite – 2020)
This forward is a plus athlete that got to the free throw line at a nice clip. He had a monster dunk off a dump off pass. Potential defensively both inside blocking shots and defending on the perimeter.
SG Jalen White (Houston Defenders – 2020)
This two guard has excellent size for position, long arms, and a frame to add strength. Ultra smooth pull up game drilling quite a few off the bounce. Solid rebounder getting on the offensive boards for several put backs. Oozing upside for the next level!
C Eddie Lampkin (Houston Defenders – 2020)
Lampkin is a massive human being! The best part about his game is how well he moves for his size. Nimble footwork and has a soft touch around the hoop. Used a right handed hook shot to punish his opponents. Uses his size to his advantage positioning himself well in the paint. Rebounds well and is a communicator on the defensive end of the floor. Went for 16 points Friday night.
SG Hunter Hefner (Houston Defenders – 2020)
Hefner showed flashes on the first night and was even more productive in their opening game of the day on Saturday. This wing is a great glue guy with athleticism and grit. Consistently made plays in the lane slashing for scoop shots or runners. Also a capable shooter.
C Valentin Catt (Houston Defenders – 2020)
I liked the consistency that this 6’10” post played with throughout the weekend. He didn’t have one dominant game, but we caught parts of three games and Catt seemed to always be around the basketball. Strong and athletic post that brings toughness to the table. Quality area rebounder that snatches them in traffic. His best offensive moves were short 10 foot right handed jumpers from the baseline.
PF Nathan Clover (Houston Defenders – 2020)
This bouncy four man has an elite second jump getting on the offensive glass. Rebounded at a high level especially on Friday with his physicality and tenacity.
SF Kendall Lewis (Atlanta Xpress – 2020)
Lewis is another rangy wing that put himself on our radar with his performance. This small forward has a projectable body and game. He can slash it off the bounce with long strides getting to the rim for explosive slams. Hit a three and was also a factor on the defensive end. He netted 20 points Friday night.
PF Rongie Gordon (Atlanta Xpress – 2020)
Gordon is a junk yard dog at the four man spot. This face up power forward likes to mix it up and be physical on the glass rebounding on the offensive end. Also hit a hook shot and showed feel in the paint. Gordon has more to his offensive skill set stepping out hitting a couple of jumpers including two threes on his way to 15 points.
PF Ibrahima Jarjou (Atlanta Xpress – 2020)
At 6’8” this post is a plus athlete that has a strong frame. Made an impact on the defensive end with his ability to protect the rim.
G Jaden Springer (B Maze Elite – 2020)
Springer was billed as one of the top players on the circuit. He had a nonexistent first quarter Friday night. Then a 360 dunk got him going. The combo guard has plus athleticism and smooth handles. Relies on his athleticism to score at the rim off the bounce. Did hit one mid-range jumper while we were watching.
PG Emory Lanier (B Maze Elite – 2020)
Lanier is a point guard that showed scoring pop. The high energy lead guard knocked down three triples off the catch. Microwave scorer for the B Maze squad out of Tennessee.
PF Akeem Odusipe (B Maze – 2020)
This 6’9” power forward is a physical four man that quietly had a nice weekend. He is a junk yard dog that gets on the glass with his strength and athleticism. Quick second jump on the offensive glass. Finished pick and roll dives for dunks. Also caught dump off passes for slams.
SG Bradley Dean (B Maze – 2020)
Dean is a 6’2” shooting guard that flashed with his ability to shoot it off the catch from beyond the arc.
PG Joseph Anderson (B Maze – 2020)
Anderson stands at 6’0” and is a scrappy lead guard. He pushes it in the open floor and likes the floater game. Can also hit from mid-range on the stop and pop.
