PG Jalen Suggs (Grassroots Sizzle)
Suggs was the best player at the event and it wasn’t close! The top 5 overall 2020 recruit made a statement against another highly rated point guard and a stacked Team Rio squad in the final game of the weekend. He put his team on his back and blew out Team Rio with one of the best single game performances I have seen in a long time. Suggs sliced up the defense doing anything he wanted. Got to the rim winning off the bounce at will where he made tough layups while regularly getting fouled. Displayed elite vision always having his head up to make a play. He is a great playmaker with the ball in his hands. The two areas I think that set him apart are his defense and rebounding. Defensively he recorded half a dozen steals taking many of them the other way for scores including a 360 windmill. So active and engaged on that end of the floor. He is an elite level rebounder with his ability to high point them in traffic and start the break on his own. Suggs looked like a potential #1 overall player nationally at UAA Session 1.
C Chet Holmgren (Grassroots Sizzle)
Holmgren was Suggs running mate all weekend. The rail thin center is a mobile five man that has such versatility to his game. Shot blocking presence protecting the rim at a high rate. Runs the floor with such ease. Suggs rewards him with lobs throwing down alley-oops. Can even handle it a little which was shown on a baseline reverse layup. Pick and pop three. Plus shooting big man. Once he adds strength and starts rebounding at a higher rate he could become a five star talent.
PF Akeem Odusipe (B Maze)
This power forward is a physical four man that quietly had a nice weekend. He is a junk yard dog that gets on the glass with his strength and athleticism. Quick second jump on the offensive glass. Finished pick and roll dives for dunks. Also caught dump off passes for slams.
SG Ethan Taylor (Houston Defenders)
Taylor is another Houston Defenders standout from the weekend. Thin and wiry wing that can shoot it from the perimeter. Like his projectability.
PG Anthony Sayles (Illinois Wolves)
Sayles is the top 2021 point guard in the state of Illinois. He played off the ball quite a bit throughout the weekend with his best game coming on Sunday. Great speed in transition with the ball blowing past defenders with ease. Split the defense throughout including one explosive and-1. Also showed improved touch on his three point shot knocking down several triples.
SF Will Wolfe (Illinois Wolves)
Another good day for Wolfe. This Aurora Christian wing makes shots with a plus jumper. Very good shooter off the catch that can also put it on the deck and rise over the defense. Workman like three days for the D1 wing who got to play in his hometown.
PG Donovan Newby (Illinois Wolves)
Newby was the heart and soul of the Wolves this weekend. He was the calming force in all four games. Was rock solid with his consistency as a scorer and distributor. Got others involved with crisp dishes. Pull up jumpers and runners on point.
C Chris Hodges (Illinois Wolves)
The best 2021 big man in the state of Illinois closed out his great weekend with another statement performance. Physical post that has excellent low post moves. Fluid footwork making quick and aggressive moves when he got the ball on the block. Sealed off his man for a slam. Right handed hook shot. Really high level rebounder against players a year older than him.
G Detrick Reeves (Team Thad)
Reeves played well on Sunday. The athletic combo guard can shoot it from three knocking down several from the wings. Flashed some explosiveness in the open floor.
SG Matthew Murrell (Team Thad)
Murrell is a high level athlete at the shooting guard position for Team Thad. Played above the rim with a few monster slams. Plus athlete that has a burst with the rock slashing downhill.
G Lium Lloyd (Washington Supreme)
Lloyd put on a scoring show against Team Felton! The scoring combo guard is a plus shooter from three with a quick release. Also has a good feel for the game as a passer making a couple nice dishes in the half court.
C Jackson Grant (Washington Supreme)
Grant has a very bright future. Legit size for a high-major five man with broad shoulders and mobility to match. The 2021 post was very active especially on the offensive glass crashing for multiple put backs. Offensively he displayed sound fundamentals in the post, has the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, and rebounded well in his area.
PG Jalen Cone (Team Felton)
Cone put himself on our radar Friday night and was effective again in the second half on Sunday. Smaller point guard that can really go! Loves the stop and pop jumper. Athletic guard that can get to the hoop and convert with acrobatics.
