Here are the top performers from Friday’s action:
Malik Reneau, Rams
The 6-foot-6 freshman, playing up for the 2021 Rams, showed why he is one of the top ninth-graders in the state in a 73-42 blowout of the 2020 Stampede. Reneau has all of the tools Division I coaches look for. The Mater Academy standout is excels in the paint.
Taderrius Davis, Rams
While watching Davis and the Rams, a fan in the stands could be heard commenting, “He plays above the rim.” Yes, he does.
The Stampede struggled to keep the 6-6 2021 Miami High prospect from getting to the rim. He had it all going: rebounding, assisting on layups and blocking shots.
Stephen Thomas, Stampede
Thomas (main picture) had his hands full vs. the Rams, but was clearly the best player on the court during a 71-60 victory over Treasure Coast. The 2020 out of Palm Beach Gardens attacks the rim offensively. He has excellent hops and hits his free throws when he gets to the line. With the game coming down the stretch, coach Malik Brown called out, “I want the ball in Steve’s hands.”
Will Vanhook (Rams)
The 6-foot 2021 guard, out of Palm Beach Central High, is shifty with the ball. He is very effective driving to the hole. Vanhook had numerous baskets on layups. He started at PBC as a sophomore.
Christian Baquerizo (Stampede)
The 6-2 sophomore is a scorer. He can shoot it from 3-land. Baquerizo attended Palm Beach Gardens but says he will be going to Olympic Heights for his junior year.
Jero Brown (Treasure Coast)
The left-handed point guard has a very good handle. He is able to attack opposing defenses and break you down. Brown attends Martin County.
