Texas Takeover Elite-Myron v Oklahoma Power: Standouts
March is officially over but that doesn’t mean that there cannot still be madness. The Prep Hoops Circuit kicked of their #GrindSZN Region with an assembly of talented high school prospects all converging in Oklahoma City. And when Texas Takeover Elite – Myron played Oklahoma Power, the talent of these prospects was on full display. Texas Takeover Elite – Myron ended up winning this hard fought game with a buzzer beater and here is who stood out.
Jalen Crawford – 5’10 point guard, Spring Woods High School, Texas Takeover Elite – Myron, class of 2019.
Crawford controlled the entire game. He did a great job of dictating the pace and putting his teammates in great positions to be successful. He was extremely active on the defensive end and was exceptionally efficient from the field scoring (18 points). He began the game by hitting deep ranged threes and that opened up the floor, creating plenty of space for him and his teammates to get into the paint when attacking the rim. The Oklahoma Power never stopped playing hard though and kept the game close, setting up the perfect setting for a “March Madness” type of finish. And with time winding down, Crawford showed his off the ball skills by using a screen to get open and was able to make a mid-ranged jumper to win the game for Texas Takeover Elite – Myron. Jalen Crawford is currently unsigned, but has interest.
Christyon Eugene – 6’3 point guard, Spring High School, Texas Takeover Elite – Myron, class of 2019.
Eugene has the perfect stature for the point guard position and he used it to his advantage in this game. His size allows him to see over the defense so he has great vision of the entire floor, and that complemented his, already, stellar passing ability in this game (9 assists). When he was not passing the ball, he was scoring it. He is a three level scorer that can knock down a 28 foot jumper almost as easily as he dunks the ball. He averaged 23+ points per game in this tournament and this game was no exception. His scoring outburst in the 2nd half vs Oklahoma Power helped Texas Takeover Elite – Myron keep control of the game. With the game tied and only 40 seconds left on the clock, Eugene dribbled the ball near the half court line. Everyone was expecting for him to make a move and score, but he remained patient and began to attack with 6 seconds left. Instead of forcing up a tough, contested shot he found Jalen Crawford open to an uncontested mid-ranged shot and that winning play won this game. Christyon Eugene is currently unsigned, but verbally committed to Angelina State.
Shemarri Allen – 6’4 guard, Oklahoma Power, class of 2019
Allen is an athletic, versatile guard that has the ability to score from nearly anywhere. He got off to a bit of a slow start in this game, but it did not take very long for him to get in rhythm once he got going. He was able to knock down a few contested shots in the second half which helped the Power stay within striking distance. He a good rebounder, especially for the position, and has a great feel for the game. Shemarri Allen is currently unsigned, but has offers.
