Here we take a look at point guards in the 2020 class we expect to turn heads and raise their recruiting profile with a strong offseason.
Isaiah Gavin, 6’5, G/F, St. Thomas Aquinas
Gavin is a long, rangy wing with good athleticism, He runs the floor well and has a good feel for passing the ball and playing in transition. He is at his best at the defensive end where he is capable of defending multiple positions thanks to a long frame and quick feet. At the offensive end of the floor, Gavin lets the game come to him and does a lot of dirty work in the plaint, cleaning up misses and staying active on the baseline.
Dakari Middleton, 6’3, G/F, 2020, Free State
Middleton had a breakout season for Free State after a strong summer running with Primetime Ballerz in 2018. He is an athletic wing player that plays much bigger than his listed 6’3 height. He can handle it a little on the perimeter, battles bigger players in the paint at the defensive end and at the offensive end of the floor, Middleton loves to shoot out of the corners.
Jaxon Pillich, 6’4, G, 2020, Wichita Heights
Pillich can put points on the board in a hurry and is very athletic, a trait that benefits him on both sides of the ball. He has terrific bounce in his step, runs the floor well where he can finish the break and has good handles and has the ability to create his own shot.
Ty Shelley, 6’4, G/F, 2020, KC Piper
Shelley is coming off a strong junior season for Piper and he has a lot of attributes that could translate well to the next level. He has good size at 6’4, agility and length for an off-the-ball shooter typer. He moves well off the ball, helps spread the floor with his outside shooting touch and brings other skills to the table as well, able to defend, rebound and move the ball.
