Spring Combine Recapture: Isaac Rankhorn
Isaac Rankhorn is ready to breakout. Playing with his hometown high school team little media attention spotlighted the talented lefty shooter (PrepHoopsTN #84 in 2020). His team wasn’t good. Isaac was.
Montgomery Central High School struggled mightily in 2018-2019 under now-retired Head Coach Jimmy Young. As a junior, Isaac averaged 15 ppg on 44.1% shooting. He helped with approximately two assists per game and five rebounds a night.
During registration, it became clear Isaac Rankhorn would be making an impact at the PrepHoopsTN / AboveTheRimGym Spring Combine. He certainly did.

A returnee from the PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine, Isaac Rankhorn earned his way onto his first PrepHoopsTN All-Star Team. Rankhorn is a 6-foot-4 wing shooter that continues to improve his mobility. To achieve his greatest potential, Isaac must improve his handle in tight spaces. Ball-handling might be a strength, but it remains subpar for a starting college point guard. Though Rankhorn will not be recruited as a point guard it is better to have a skill and not need it, then to need a skill and not have it.
It is clear when watching him that Isaac spent countless hours on his shooting touch.
Rankhorn will hit the outside shot both when left alone and also if he gets his feet set prior to the ball’s arrival. Isaac Rankhorn is adept at finding the open shooting spot and utilizing his shooting window. He ranked in the top 3 shooters at the event. This is his most marketable skill and it becomes all the more attractive when considering his height.

As he enters his final AAU season, Isaac looks like an eventual D2 starter. Until Rankhorn improves his handle in the lane he projects as a wing without secondary ball-handler capabilities.

Isaac Rankhorn sports wonderful conditioning and plays fundamentally sound basketball. He can score at all three levels, but doesn’t really play above the rim. Improving his slashing ability will broaden out his game and ideally demand more respect from his defenders. He could be more vocal. He understands the game very, very well. In fact, both Isaac Rankhorn and Phil Dotson possessed the best ‘feel for the game’ of any campers.

Isaac Rankhorn’s older sister attends Lee University and the family has been some contact with the coaching staff. Can Isaac secure several D2 offers in the coming month?
