It was an overall good showing for the players in Arizona, we saw a couple different clubs represented well this back weekend. Here are some of the top performers from the weekend:
Cesar Saenz F 2021 (Sabino/Arizona Dynasty)
Saenz has greatly improved his game. I saw his play at this level in flashes last summer but never with this much consistency. He is looking like a very polished prospect and is becoming very versatile. He has a big frame but moves very well and has crisp handles. He has an array of dribble moves that he likes to use when getting to the basket. Saenz is turning into something special!
Jerry Ilaya F 2020 (Paradise Honors/PHH 17U Black)
Jerry put on a show this weekend! He usually does whenever he is on the break. He threw done some monster dunks. Ilaya is still super raw and has a ton of potential. Right now, he is an athletic freak. If he could put it all together and tighten up his skills, he’d be a very intriguing prospect.
Phoenix Katz F 2019 (Sabino/Arizona Dynasty)
Phoenix Katz has a great set of physical tools that will help him in college. I always thought that he was college ready in terms of his body and athleticism but lacked a bit of the skill needed for D1. However, he is looking like he has put in a lot of work and is looking real crisp in every aspect of his game. I think Katz could get a last minute D1 look at a college as a walk on.
D’Marco Dunn G 2021 (Marana/PHH 16 UAA)
Dunn is quickly making a name for himself. Here at Prep Hoops Arizona, we ranked him quite high in his class. He is not a super well known figure in AZ because he plays in Tucson, but he is quickly showing everyone why he is so highly ranked. The kid has sky high potential and is starting to show what many scouts think he could be. He had an impressive scoring display on day 1, scoring 18 points.
Jake Murphy G 2020 (Arcadia/PHH 17U Black)
Jake Murphy absolutely shot the lights out this weekend! In one game, he had an impressive shooting performance in particular. He went 9-9 from the field and shot 5-5 from deep. That is very impressive and shows why he is looked at as one of the top shooters in his class. If you’re a college coach and you need a shooter, call this guy up.
