A big man whose calling card is his work on the glass, Freeman finished his senior season averaging around 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Northwest Texans. His play helped lead the squad to an appearance in the regional finals.
Over the course of his high school career, Freeman has been offered by Houston, Minnesota, North Texas, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, and Virginia Tech. However, he has recently cut his list to three schools: Minnesota, TCU, and Virginia Tech.
IN SAMMIE’S WORDS:
Minnesota: “I really enjoyed the visit. I feel like the coaching staff cares about my development. They say they like the simple fact of me rebounding the ball and running the floor. I would be able to play the four and five positions there as well.”
TCU: “Coach Dixon came and saw me practice a while back. Him and Coach Barker both say that they like the fact that I can rebound and run the floor. They feel that my ability on the boards is mainly what they need for their team.”
Virginia Tech: “The visit was fun and well spent. I really got to build a relationship with all of the coaches. The parts of my game that they admire the most is my athleticism and ability to finish strong at the rim. They want to develop me into a four that can pop out every now and then and shoot the three.”
FINAL THOUGHTS
When talking about what he needs to improve on to be successful at the next level, Freeman states, “I need to get stronger, faster, gain more explosion, and work on more skills than that of the center position.” Look for Minnesota to be the favorite on Thursday morning, with TCU strongly in the mix, while Virginia Tech is looking unlikely to take place.
