The veratile 6-foot-5, 170-pound swingman doesn’t know quite yet where he’s going to go but one thing is clear – it will be at the Division I level. Bieker will start his college career at a West Coast Conference school and now it’s a question of which one he chooses after he’s made visits to see a couple the past couple of weeks.
“I got back from visiting USF and the coaching staff there and the weekend before that I was over at Loyola Marymount,” Bieker said. “From there, it’s just deciding between the two of them. They’re both really good and both programs are on the come-up and in the West Coast Conference, they keep on getting better and better and I think they will both be pretty good teams. From now, it’s just going to be thinking it all over, seeing which one is going to be the best one for me.”
Both opportunities are of the walk-on variety to start with the possibilites open after that. “Both have been saying that I’ll be able to earn a scholarship but USF actually said they’re going to offer me a scholarship for my fourth and fifth year,” Bieker said. “I don’t even know how they can do that but I think it just kind of shows how much they want me. The goal is still to earn a scholarship after the first or second year but it’s nice to know that they’re willing to put some (scholarship) money down for me.”
At this point, it’s just which program he goes with and Bieker doesn’t want to waste much time. “Probably in the next week or two, I would say,” Bieker said. “I just took the visit to USF so I really want to let things settle and I’ll figure stuff out.”
Bieker was a 6A First Team All-State and First Team All-Tournament selection and helped Jesuit win the 6A state championship. He currently ranks as the #25 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
