From the jump, Brian Warinner took his time with the recruiting process and carefully looked at all the options presented to him as they came along. The steady 6-foot-7, 185-pound forward from Bend is still doing that in a sense but he’s ready to move on to the next step and hopefully make a commitment in the not too distant future.
“I’m trying to make a decision pretty soon, it’s just a situation of comparing financial packages now and talking with all my mentors and stuff trying to figure out what’s best for me,” Warinner said. “It’s just going to be comparing schools and picking the right one right now. I’d like to make a decision as soon as I can as it’s been a long time waiting but I’m also trying not to rush it.”
Warinner doesn’t really have a final list of schools at this time but noted that Whitman, Northwest Christian, Academy of Art, Emory, and Humboldt State are currently at the forefront. Humboldt State has been talking about hosting him on a visit but no dates have been finalized yet.
With his recruitment still sorting itself out, Warinner took the time to suit up one more time as a prep player and participated with the state’s best at the Northwest Shootout. Team Oregon may not have won but Warinner performed well – 12 points and four rebounds – and it was overall a great experience to close out his high school career.
“It was super fun to represent the state of Oregon,” Warinner said. “There were a ton of people that put a lot into and gave us a lot, and it was for a good cause too, I’m sure we raised some money. We just really wanted to play our game and play as a team and I thought there were times we did that really well.”
Warinner currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
