Continue ReadingOswego East 2020 power forward Sam Schultz is one of the top post prospects in the rising senior class. He is expected to attract a lot of college interest over the next few months and it is easy to see why. At 6’8” he has positional size with the ability to score both on the block and stretch the floor with his shooting. Runs the floor well in transition and has an overall intriguing skill set.
How was his junior year at Oswego East?
“It was a very good year. Probably the best year in Oswego East history. We made it to the sectional championship and lost to Bolingbrook. It was a good year overall with Demari (Grant), Kam (Battle), and Ray J (Dennis) all as seniors. I think I played good in my role. I did what my team wanted me to do. I averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds.”
He spoke about the areas he has improved the most over the last year.
“My pick and pop. I improved my game down low. Now I am starting to become that guy who can go get you a bucket. Outside and inside. I am trying to work my outside game into my inside game.”
At Oswego East he had a trio of seniors to learn from in Ray J Dennis, Demari Grant, and Kamron Battle.
“Ray J definitely taught me the work ethic and what it takes to be that guy. They all taught me leadership and how to do the right thing. People are looking up to us so we have to lead by example.”
He told us the areas he is focusing on this spring as areas of improvement.
“I am trying to create my own baskets. Continue to improve as an outside shooter and get better as a defensive rebounder.”
Schultz is running with Hoops Intensity Training on the PrepHoops Circuit this spring.
“I am excited to play some new teams. Ball out with my friends.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“UT-Chattanooga, Lehigh, and UIC have talked to me lately. Milwaukee, Green Bay, Colorado State, and Utah State have all been talking to me for a while.”
Currently doesn’t hold any offers, but expect that to change soon for the state’s #18 2020 prospect.
