Trigg, just a sophomore, led Seffner Christian (25-7) to the Class 4A state championship game. In the 77-73 loss to three-time state champion Westminster Academy, Trigg went off for 33 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
He would shoot 10 of 17 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point land, and nail 10 of 11 free throws.
Now he heads into the spring and summer looking to take the next step with the Florida Vipers 16s on the Under Armour Association circuit. Trigg was close to unstoppable last weekend in a scrimmage against South Florida Elite. He put up close to 40 points in the game.
The 6-foot-3 guard has already earned a scholarship offer from the University of South Florida and he is getting interest from Florida Atlantic.
Asked what makes him tick on the court, Trigg said: “I think I’m a pretty good defender. I rebound the ball exceptionally well. I’m a two-way player — I can play offense to defense and I’m a great teammate.”
Trigg said he plans to continue to work on his shot over the spring and summer. Despite his success, he said he wants to be more consistent.
“The first game [at state] against Riviera Prep we came out a little scared,” Trigg recalled. “A little shaky, because we’re all young. In the second game versus Westminster, we got a little comfortable and we started playing the game that we play. Came up a little short but next year we should make it back [to Lakeland] because we’re a young team. We lost three seniors but we have a great team this [coming] year, too.”
Trigg is also a top football prospect. The 200-pounder plays tight end and defensive end on the gridiron. He has offers in football from Southern Miss, Boston College, FAU and USF … and interest from the Florida Gators.
