The 6-foot-8 twin bigs attend Franklin Academy in Sunrise, Fla., and will be a major catch at whichever high school program they settle on attending. As of this past weekend, they said they were not certain where they would attend ninth grade in 2019-2020.
The Bewleys competed in the 2023 division and played up in the 2022s for Team Breakdown at the E1T1 Invite.
Matthew Bewley connected on nine field goals and finished with a team-high 21 points in an impressive 48-42 victory over AOT (2022) of Atlanta. The Team Breakdown 2022s finished 2-0 on the weekend.
“I’m eager to get into high school … just do my thing,” Matthew Bewley said Sunday.
Among his goals: “Be No. 1 in the nation. Go for the top. At least be top 10 in my class,” he said.
“The twins are special, Matthew and Ryan,” Team Breakdown 2022 coach Tramaine Stevens added. “We hope we can make a run at the UA Finals.”
The Bewleys have excellent size, are agile for standing 6-8 at their age, and are very composed. They helped Breakdown take down the Miami Warriors in the 2023 semifinals. The 60-52 verdict avenged a loss to the Warriors earlier in the year at the DS Sportsplex in Deerfield Beach.
Team Breakdown, however, would fall to the E1T1 Rebels, a talented squad out of Orlando coached by former NBA player Chucky Atkins, 71-60, in the 2023 championship game. Matthew Bewley scored 16 points in the loss and Ryan Bewley chipped in 6.
Matthew Bewley said playing against quality tournaments at venues such as this will only help him moving forward.
“It helps me a lot,” he said. “All I have to do is get in a gym, keep working. Because we’re not going to win everything.”
The Breakdown 2023s finished the weekend with a 3-1 mark.
