Recruiting Report: Malik Reneau (2022)
The next time you are watching Malik Reneau play basketball, take notice of the size of his calves and impressive leg strength.
The talented 6-foot-6 Reneau does not look like just a ninth-grader (2022).
Reneau started for Mater Academy in Miami-Dade as a freshman. He is playing this travel basketball season with both the Florida Rams and Nike EYBL Florida Pro.
Friday night, while playing up in age groups, he led the Rams 2021s to a 73-42 rout of the Stampede 2020s at The Basketball Alliance Easter Mania tournament at Coral Springs City Gym. Next weekend he will be traveling to Atlanta to compete with Florida Pro in session No. 1 of the Nike EYBL.
Asked what he hopes to get out of it, Reneau said: “I’m just looking to play good and hopefully get some [college] offers.”
Reneau has already hit the radar of the University of Miami. The Canes had an assistant at one of his Mater Academy games this winter.
The left-hander has excellent footwork, a nice soft touch and is a load to handle when he gets position in the post. Reneau has very good timing and has a knack for tipping in rebounds at the rim.
He said “the physicality” of the game was his biggest adjustment in making the leap to the varsity level.
“They are a lot stronger than me,” Reneau said. “So I had to toughen up and play harder so that I can get my buckets.”
With the Rams, Reneau plays alongside Michael Bradley, Will Vanhook, Taderrius Davis and Thaddeus Squire among others.
Moving forward Reneau wants to continue working on his outside shot and ball-handling.
