This spring, he is focused on building his profile and improving his overall game so he can stand out in front of college coaches. Johnson explained what he can bring to a college program and much more during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your game?
LJ: “I can score in the post. I can shoot a little bit. I can pretty much score from wherever.”
PH: What’s the adjustment been like for you this spring? Going from being the main guy on your high school team to one of many good players with the NOVA Cavaliers?
LJ: “It’s definitely different, but it’s been real good. We’ve got a good group of guys here. They help me fit in really well. A lot of talent on this team so it makes things real easy.”
PH: What are your goals?
LJ: “I’d definitely like to play in college someday. No matter what level that is, but I’d just like to further my career.”
PH: What’s your recruitment like?
LJ: “I’m getting some looks from small D3 schools. But hopefully that’ll change this spring and summer.”
PH: Which schools have been in close contact with you?
LJ: “Mostly ODACs. Randolph Macon, and Ithaca as well.”
PH: What are your grades like?
LJ: “I have a 3.5 GPA. Took the SAT, got an 1170.”
PH: What do you think you need to work on?
LJ: “Definitely my ball handling and getting more athletic. I feel like that can take me to the next level.”
PH: What’s underrated about your overall game?
LJ: “Not many people think I can shoot as well as I can.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
LJ: “I feel like I’ve got pretty good heart. I give good effort and I’m always down to work as hard as possible.”
