The Eagles (19-9) knocked off playoff mainstay Bishop Moore in the district semifinal before making a run to the Class 6A region semifinal, losing to Eustis in double overtime.
A 2021 prospect emerged and took the reigns of this team, leading Poinciana in scoring with 12.2 PPG. In 18 of the team’s 28 games, Jahsean Corbett scored more than 10 points including a season-best 29 against Eustis on Dec. 7. He shot an impressive 13-of-15 from the field in that game.
“My sophomore season at Poinciana went well. Our season was great,” Corbett told Prep Hoops. “The team had built brotherhood and learned how to play together as one. Even though we didn’t win the state championship we accomplished a lot over the course of the season including winning the district championship.”
…This past season I think I took a big step forward in my shooting consistency and being consistent overall and also showed that I have a big motor and I can impact the game in many ways offensively and defensively.”
No offers have come yet for the 6’7″, 200-pounder, but he’s drawn interest from the likes of North Carolina State, USF, FGCU, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Jacksonville, Bethune Cookman and Appalachian State.
This is the second summer with Showtime Ballers for Corbett.
“It has helped me play against four and five-star talent and showcase my skills in front of college coaches and recruiters,” he said.
Corbett pointed to his high motor, versatility on defense as his biggest strengths.
“I can guard multiple positions and my size creates miss matches because smaller guards can’t keep me off the glass and bigger guards can’t match my quickness,” he said.
He says he wants to be a more consistent 3-point shooter and improve his handles.
Corbett is a 2021 prospect that college coaches will want to evaluate the few times they can this summer. He’s a steady inside presence and a lengthy one at that. His burst and natural athleticism help him often. Corbett is certainly maturing rapidly and will continue to get better with more muscle and a more developed long range jumper.
