Savageau, one of the best guards in the 2020 class, has flown a bit under the radar being tucked away up north in Osakis to this point. So this is a big summer for him to showcase his game against top-flight competition.
“I love playing with my high school team and those guys but then playing AAU; it’s a different atmosphere,” Savageau said. “The competition is better. The game is faster. It’s helping me out a lot.”
With Comets DLR, Savageau goes from being a high octane scorer at Osakis to being more of a facilitator and defender. He’s embracing the opportunity to showcase other parts of his game.
“It’s different from before, there’s some really good players,” said Savageau. “I’ve switched my style of play from being a scorer to be more of a facilitator. Everybody can score. It’s fun to play with these guys. It really gets you ready for the next level. It changes my style of play, I can be a true point guard and make sure everybody is in the right spot.”
Savageau is very good in that role. He’s a solid shooter and scorer but he’s shown he’s more than capable of controlling the pace of the game – pushing the tempo or slowing things down – and he uses his strength and physicality to his advantage with the ball and on the defensive end.
Savageau has drawn interest from a number of local programs about playing basketball at the college level.
“The assistant at Bemidji has contacted me for a while now,” Savageau said. “Northwestern and St. Johns have too. I visited Bemidji last summer. I visited Morris as well, I know him pretty good. I’m hoping to get my name out there and get a variety of schools interested and see which one is the best.”
