Cory Barnes Jr. a class of 2020 guard from Archbishop Carroll, will once again be asked to defend the opposing team’s best perimeter player this spring and summer on the EYBL with Team Durant. The Delaware native, who is known for playing tenacious on ball defense, discussed his anticipated role, recruitment and much more during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: Coach Os(man Bangura) says you’re going to be the main guy that he goes to when he needs to shut down the opposing team’s best player. What type of mentality does it take to be confident in that role?
CB: “My mentality is nobody can score on me. I pick the intensity up. I get everybody riled up so that we can come out on top.”
PH: What do you think is the most improved part of your overall game?
CB: “My mid range has improved. A couple of people told me that my mid range has become deadly. I’m just trying to work on my threes now, but my mid range is pretty good.”
PH: What else do you need to work on?
CB: “My ball handling.”
PH: What are your goals?
CB: “I’ve been saying it since day 1. Peach Jam Champions.”
PH: What makes you so confident about winning it all?
CB: “We picked up a few pieces that are going to help us. Earl (Timberlake), Ace (Baldwin), Caleb (Dorsey). We’ll be coming back stronger after coming up short last year.”
PH: What schools are standing out in your recruitment?
CB: “Siena, UMass, Boston College, Stony Brook, George Mason, and GW.”
PH: Is the old Siena staff still recruiting you at GW?
CB: “Yes. I feel like I’m going to have a big summer so a lot more schools could get involved.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
CB: “Intensity and defense. I feel like nobody can score on me. It doesn’t matter what position.”
