Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several forwards who have raised their profile and moved into the Prep Hoops rankings for the first time.
Mason Quartlebaum, 6’3, F, 2020, Lawrence, KC Run GMC 16U Red
Unranked to 34
Although he is listed at 6’3, Quartlebaum plays much bigger than his listed height.. He has a big-bodied frame and a well-rounded inside-out game. He can handle the ball a little on the perimeter, and has a left handed shooting stroke that extends to the 3-point line and can also score around the basket as well.
King Sutton, 6’4, F, 2020, Topeka, SSA Elite Black
Unranked to 37
Sutton is an undersized forward who brings a hard work attitude to the court and a willingness to compete in the paint. He is a terrific athlete who can play above the rim at both ends of the floor and often surprises opponents with his shot blocking. Offensively he does a lot of his work in the paint, but can also take advantages against mismatched slower players on the perimeter as he can handle it a little and beat others bigs off the bounce.
Ty Bowman, 6’5, F, 2020, Chanute
Unranked to 45
Also a football standout, Bowman is a strong, physical athlete who runs the floor exceptionally well, rebounds, defends and is a terrific passer. He was bottled up for much of Wednesday’s game by Trinity as he played in the high post against the Knights’ zone, but showed the ability to pass, find the open man and got on the boards, hauling in six rebounds in the first half and finished with eight total.
Richaud Dockery, 6’2, F, 2020, Bonner Springs
Unranked to 52
Dockery is a well-rounded, do-everything athlete who can handle the ball, play multiple positions and knock down outside shots. He can play above the rim, rebound and gets out in transition where he can take the ball coast-to-coast. With Bonner Springs losing several key seniors, Dockery will have a big role next season.
