Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several wing players who have raised their profile.
Noah Butler, 6’5, G/F, 2019, Free State
A four-year varsity regular at the high school level, Butler has been on the radar of scouts for several years, but put together a breakout season for Free State as a senior. He is a strong, powerful athletes capable of playing above the rim, handling the ball, defending multiple positions and getting out on the break. Butler has developed into a knock down shooter from the perimeter as well.
Jacob Coleman, 6’6, G/F, 2019, Basehor-Linwood
Coleman will be playing at Pittsburg state after a stellar high school career at Basehor-Linwood. He is among the state’s most versatile players, capable of shooting from the perimeter, posting up, defending multiple positions, playing guard, forward, point forward and doing a wide variety of things to help his team.
Caleb Muia, 6’2, G/F, 2019, Girard
Muia plays significantly bigger than his listed 6’2 height tanks to a long, rangy frame, a lot of hop in his step and the ability to get off the ground quickly. Muia helped his high school team win a Class 3A state championship and was named the classes Player of the Year, averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Andrew O’Brien, 6’6, G/F, 2019, Halstead
O’Brien recently signed to play at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid after a strong senior season at Halstead. He is a well-rounded wing player with terrific size, the ability to handle, pass the ball over the top of a defense on the perimeter, and can knock down outside shots as well.
Dyelan Reed, 6’4, G/F, 2019, Concordia
Reeds overall ranking belies his value to his team and his all-around game. He has terrific size, can lead a team by scoring from all over the court, can knock down outside shot and can also help a team by playing a secondary role as a gritty, hard work player.
