Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several scoring guards who have raised their profile.
Tymer Jackson, 6’0, G, 2019, Olathe North
Jackson emerged this season as one of the state’s premier scorers and moved all the way up to No. 11 overall in the latest Prep Hoops 2019 rankings. He averaged nearly 26 points per game and led the Eagles all the way to the Kansas 6A state championships in Wichita. Jackson can score at all three levels, is exceptional in a fast paced game, has a nice floater and feel for scoring in the lane, and shot 44 percent from 3-point range.
D’Monte Gaw, 6’1, G, 2019, Leavenworth
Gaw transferred to Leavenworth from KC Piper and put together a big senior season. He is a talented ball handler, scorer and a tough, physical competitor. Gaw is strong off the bounce, getting to the basket, creating for himself and others and is a hard worker.
Cevin Clark, 5’11, G, 2019, Arkansas City
If you’re looking for the state’s biggest individual season, it might have been turned in by Clark who averaged 31.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He shot 54 percent from the field, knocked down 51 3-pointers and shot 40 percent from behind the 3-point arc. Keenan Miller, 6’4, G, 2019, Wichita South
Miller is a talented guard with terrific athleticism, quickness and all-around game. He can handle the ball, get to the basket and knock down outside shots. He averaged 20.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot 56 percent from the field.
TJ Fritz, 6’3, G, 2019, Wamego
Known for his left handed shooting stroke, Fritz emerged as a talented all-around scorer and player this season as he averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. A strong athlete who plays bigger than his listed 6’3 height, Fritz knocked down 67 3-pointers in 20 games this season, shooting nearly 40 percent from behind the arc.
