Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several scoring guards who have raised their profile.
Mason Thiessen, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Inman
Thiessen made waves last summer with his play on the grassroots circuit for WCS Team Driven, then saw that performance carry over where he was among the state’s top big men. He has a strong, physical frame and an inside-out game, able to post up, play big on the block, or step out and knock down outside shots. He recently signed to play at NCAA Division II Emporia State.
Kael Kordonowy, 6’6, F, 2019, Maize South
Kordonowy put together a huge senior season, showcasing an all-around game and the ability to impact a game at both ends of the floor. Kordonowy averaged 18 points, 14 rebounds, shot 64 percent from the field and was among the state’s premier shot blockers, averaging four per game.
Devon Koehn, 6’7, F, 2019, Maize
Blessed with some bounce in his step, and a long, rangy frame, Koehn is coming off a terrific senior season. Playing on a deep and well-balanced squad that went 24-1, Koehn averaged 12 points, 5.5 rebounds and two blocked shots per game. He recently announced he will be continuing his basketball career at Coffeyville CC.
Trenton Driskill, 6’7, F, Valley Center
Driskill put together a strong offseason running with Wichita-based NLHA and showed off some all-around skill. He can handle the ball a little, shoot from the perimeter and is good scoring around the basket where he shows a soft shooting touch. He averaged 14 points, 4.6 rebounds per game for the Hornets this past season.
Devin Walker, 6’9, F, Ulysses
Walker has terrific size at 6’9 and a soft shooting touch, able to knock down outside shots, handle the ball a little and can score in traffic. He recently signed to play at Fort Hays State.
