A 5’10 point guard, Palen likes to play a fast-paced game and push the ball, but is capable of helping his team run a halfcourt set as well. He is a solid ball handler, can shoot from the outside or get all the way to the basket for a layup.
He averaged a team-high 14.3 points and 3.6 assists per game and made a team-high 541 3-pointers.
“Our season this year was terrific,” Palen said. “We had five seniors but my class is also very talented. We have my classmate Carson Cox returning (next0 year with me as well.”
Palen says he is looking forward to teaming up with several players from Beloit and surrounding schools as they form a travel team to compete in various tournaments this offseason.
“I am hoping to improve my midrange shot and driving all the way to the rack with my left,” he says.
Palen says the biggest influence on his basketball career to date has been his older brother, Caleb Palen, who was a senior for the Trojans in 2012-13.
“He has always been there to help me no matter the game I played,” Vincent says. “If I played like crap he’s going to tell me and he will help me fix it. Even if I had the best game of my career, he will tell me to fix something. He is there at the games night in and night out.
“He played here before so he knows what coach (Ryan Ellert) expects and he helps me out.”
A fan of former Kansas standouts Devonte Graham and Frank Mason, Palen says he has appreciates the all-around game of both players.
“They can both drive the ball to the rack like I can and can also shoot,” Palen said. “They both are terrific passers as well. I try to watch their court vision and see how the break down the court. I watch the shots they take and how the draw the contact when they drive in.”
