A team-oriented player, Herbert is capable of impacting the game in a variety of ways on both ends of the court. He described his overall game and outlined his goals during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your game?
TH: “I’m a pass-first point guard. I like getting my teammates involved. Try to do as much as I can offensively and defensively. Defensively, mainly rebounding. Try to help the bigs because I know its hard to keep fighting down low like that. I like slashing to the basket. Mainly like scoring off fast breaks though.”
PH: You can use both your hands pretty well. When did you realize that it was important to start using your right hand?
TH: “Mainly last year. Going to Hoop Group and all that, with all that competition we play in, you realize you can’t be one dimensional. You’ve gotta be able to switch it up. Can’t do the same thing every game.”
PH: What do you think you need to work on?
TH: “Mainly my right hand and being consistent with my jump shot.”
PH: What do you need to do in order to be a more consistent shooter?
TH: “My arms are pretty long. I’ve gotta get used to that. Just adjusting, getting my rotation right, getting perfect rotation every time.”
PH: What are your goals?
TH: “I really want an offer this year. Especially this summer. Trying to get locked in this year so I don’t have to scramble late in my senior year and try to find a school to go to.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
TH: “A lot of energy. On and off the court. I like joking around a lot and just having fun. If you’re not having fun, there’s no point in being here.”
