At 5’8, Sides is a floor general who sees the floor and finds the open man and can also knock down outside shots. He averaged 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game while knocking down a team-high 47 3-pointers as he helped the Panthers finish the season 18-3.
Despite the impressive regular season record, Sides says the Phillipsburg program was disappointed with how things ended as Smoky Valley knocked off the Panthers in the sub-state semifinals.
“I feel I played well all season, but there’s always room for improvement,” he says. “I’m hoping to improve my finishing around the rim and my ball handling (this offseason).”
Sides says his older brother, 2019 standout Trey Sides and his dad have had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“My dad for always being my coach and taking us to the gym when we were younger and my brother for his work ethic and his desire to always be better,” Ty Sides says.
A fan of Kansas State’s Barry Brown, Sides says he enjoys his ability to take over games and his smooth jumper.
“I like how he sets up his defenders before a blow by move or a pull-up jumper,” he says.
