Prospect Spotlight: Trent Allard (2020)
North Scott big-man Trent Allard was making some highlight reel plays last weekend at #HardWorkSZNKickoff in Omaha.
The 6-foot-6 junior was showcasing his ups while playing with Iowa Mavericks-Schlabaugh 17u, and on more than one occasion threw down a thunderous dunk.
But despite the flashy aspects of his game, Allard says it’s defense that he takes the most pride in.
“I think my biggest strength right now is my defense, I play tough defense, I can guard out on the perimeter and I can guard in the post, too,” said Allard. “Offensively, I can shoot it and I have a pretty good post game.”
One of the state’s best high-jumpers, Allard qualified for this weekend’s Drake Relays. That explains the above the rim capability.
“I’ve always been good at jumping and that dunking ability has just been coming naturally,” said Allard. “This past year, I really started putting them down in games and getting used to going up strong and finishing hard.”
Allard started some games this past season for North Scott, and wound up being a role player off the bench for a state-qualifying Lancers squad.
Next year, he projects to possibly be a key starter for the team; but first, he’ll have an important spring and summer of grassroots ball, where his main objective is to improve. And maybe pick up some hoops recruitment in the process.
“I just hope to get better for school ball, I think if I improve in all areas that I need to work on that it will boost my recruitment. And I hope we can win a couple of these tournaments, and we all have fun doing it,” said Allard.
Recruitment: For track, Allard has a few schools looking at him. He says Sioux Falls, Wisconsin-Platteville and Loras have reached out.
“Track I’d like to pursue at the next level, too, if I had the opportunity, just like with basketball,” said Allard.
