Continue ReadingML20 is a brand new squad for the adidas Gauntlet this AAU season and Tari Eason is going to be a big part of how successful they are. The athletic 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward from Federal Way has gotten off to a fast start with the team and really impressed with his play this past weekend at The Hoop Madness Spring Showcase. Eason has already gotten the attention of several high-major schools so far and the sky may be the limit as ML20 starts to make an impact on the circuit this spring.
ML20 only just started practicing since the season ended and they truly dominated the field at The Hoop in Salem over two days. “Every game we got better,” Eason said. “We’re still fresh and we haven’t practiced a lot, but from how we started to how we are now we’re a much better team and that’s all you can ask for, to get better every day.”
At the Spring Showcase, Eason was extremely impressive. Long and lanky with a spring in his step, the junior was unstoppable going to the basket and dunking with authority in transition, but also hitting the boards hard and swatting away shots on defense. In the championship game alone, Eason stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks – and it’s that type of all-around game he’s aiming to showcase this AAU season.
“I’m shooting the ball more and I’m on the wing,” Eason said. “I don’t want to be just be known as a big but as someone who can do everything. My game is coming along really well – I’m shooting really well, dribbling the ball, and finding my teammates.”
Eason noted that playing at Federal Way this past season alongside Jaden McDaniels really helped him get to this point. College programs have noticed and Eason’s recruitment has been on the rise.
“It’s been going really well and I’ve heard from a lot of the Pac-12, schools like USC, Oregon State, Wazzu, and Pepperdine,” Eason said. “I like Arizona State, USC, and Pepperdine. For USC it’s like the home vibe as I’m from LA and I love home, and Arizona State they’ve shown me love since very early in my recruitment process.”
Eason noted that the most important factor in his recruitment is to find a sense of community and family in the program that he eventually chooses. He’s hoping to take some visits this summer to USC and Pepperdine but is remaining open in the process. There are games on the circuit first to play and Eason has high expectations.
“I think we’re capable of being one of the best teams if not the best team on the Gauntlet if we play together,” he said.
Eason currently ranks as the #2 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2020 rankings.
