When playing on a prep team that has three highly talented guards like Khalil Davis does at Princeton, there are sacrifices that have to be made for the better good of the team. But with his transition to playing more off than on ball, he learned that he was comfortable in both situations. “It doesn’t matter to me,” Davis asked about transitioning more to playing off-ball. “The ball usually doesn’t stick, so I’m good playing either.” And this could be a good thing for Khalil’s future as he prepares to enter his final AAU and prep season.
The scouting report on Khalil has always centered around his athleticism and willingness to get in the paint and make plays. But when asked how to best describe his game, he talked about the exact opposite of his athleticism. “If I had to describe my game I would say that I have an all-around game,” Davis stated. “I am also fast but I do not play at the same speed the whole game.” And this is the part of the game were Khalil has improved the most. In the past when watching him play it seemed like he did everything at 100 mph. But during his junior campaign he started to play with better pace, which he again showed at the Bearcat Classic along with improved shooting from three-point land.
Apex roster is comprised of wings and big men who can get up and down the court, which is a situation that should perfectly suit an area of his game that Khalil wants to improve on the most. “The part of my game that I want to work on the most is being a better teammate. Helping my team get better and helping my teammates get better looks,” he stated. Having the ability to help get others involved is kind of a lost art in today’s game, where one on one ability is celebrated more than any other time in history. It’s an ability that will make Khalil more versatile as a guard, and will get him that college offer that he deserves.
