The solid 6-foot-9, 200-pound post is hoping to to showcase himself in front of college coaches playing with Team Fly this spring and summer after emerging as a force on both ends at South Eugene in 2018-19.
“It was a very successful year,” Clark said. “We had fun as an entire team and we really proved ourselves. Everyone looked at us at the beginning of the year and was like, that’s South Eugene, they’re not going to do much. And then next thing you know, halfway through the season comes and we’re Top Ten and people are like wow, did not expect that.”
“We weren’t invited to the (Les Schwab Invitational) this year so we had a huge grudge on our shoulders to prove ourselves,” Clark continued. “I thought we were able to come out, prove ourselves, and beat some teams that we weren’t supposed to beat.”
Individually, Clark averaged 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds while leading the state in blocked shots with 3.0 per game. “I felt like I did a lot better this year compared to other years,” Clark said. “I was really able to dominate the court and I was able to do a lot more than in previous years. I was able to get more offense, defensive blocks, and average more points and rebounds than I ever thought I would this season. That was big for me.”
Clark is running this AAU campaign with Team Fly after having grown up playing with FAST and Elite 24. He’s excited about what’s ahead and has goals for this off-season. “I’ve been really working on my jumpshot,” Clark said. “I’ve had a lot of coaches tell me that man, if you got that jump shot down people will really struggle to guard (me). Another thing is trying to get my ball-handling down too so I can be a threat through the entire court instead of just in the paint.”
The hope of course is to increase his college recruitment. Clark noted that some schools had been in contact last summer but it’s been quiet as of late. That should change with a good AAU campaign and he noted what he’s looking for at the next level. “I’m looking for somewhere where I can fit in, that I like the campus, that fits me for my education, and where I can realy strive and improve myself as a basketball player,” Clark said. “Just whatever makes me feel the best and most like family and most like home to me.”
Clark currently ranks as the #10 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2020 rankings.
