Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff: Top Shooters
It seems that outside shooting is becoming more valuable by the day! We can see why, as these seven snipers were crucial components of their teams’ success at the Spring Kickoff!
Jack Schultz (2020) | 6-4 G | Gamepoint Inland Empire / Temecula Valley (CA)
Schultz’s size allows him to shoot over the top of smaller guards. He’s capable from all over the floor. Makes quick decisions, whether it’s a shot or pass. Pushed the break via the pass, too.
Jordan Thompson (2020) | 6-0 PG | Team Buddy Buckets 17U / Southmoore (OK)
Although Thompson clearly has point guard abilities, he accepted a role off the ball throughout the weekend. He’s a potent threat to hit off the catch with his feet set. Thompson used his pump fake to his advantage, too. Gets into the second level of the defense and makes clever passes consistently. Uses his body to protect his dribble and finish floaters.
Dominique Clifford (2020) | 6-4 G/W | Colorado Miners Gold 17U / Colos (CO)
Clifford has a really smooth shooting stroke to go along with being a very good athlete with size. Provided secondary ball-handling ability and a presence on the defensive glass. Clifford bothered smaller wings with his height and length. Also flashed mid-post scoring ability.
Jackson Brennan (2022) | 6-1 G | Chauncey Billups Elite 15U / Cherry Creek (CO)
Brennan is a talented shooter with the potential of becoming a primary ball-handler. We liked the flashes he showed as a playmaker as he was strong with the ball against pressure and made good decisions off the dribble. Regardless, he really stretches the floor as an excellent outside shooter.
Ethan Scott (2022) | 5-10 G | Team Buddy Buckets 16U / Westmoore (OK)
Scott played up in the 16U division with the Platinum Bracket champs and held his own. In fact, he was one of their top scorers throughout the weekend. Very confident shooter from distance who even ran to the arch in transition at times. If left open, forget about it; but he showed that he can shoot it under duress, too. Scott also used the glass to his advantage when he slashed.
Boston Stanton (2021) | 6-3 G | Knights Elite 16U / Denver East (CO)
Stanton is a very fundamentally sound basketball player whose pull-up shooting ability puts pressure on the defense. Good size for a combo guard. He can take it inside and get fouled. Tremendous shooting mechanics and the ability to create space for himself with a nice handle.
