Team Winston
Tobias Johnson – 6’4 – Guard
Jakob Moore and Zack Austin aren’t the only studs on Team Winston’s 17U squad. Another player that’s starting to set himself apart is 2020 wing Tobias Johnson. Johnson showed an extra pep in his step this past weekend on offense, scoring from behind the arc and getting to the basket on a few occasions. He’s got size and length on defense that makes him a factor as well.
Max Rogers – 6’3 – Guard
Max Rogers is another wing player to keep an eye on with his ability to knock it down from behind the arc. He made at least two 3-pointers in each of his team’s contests this weekend. On defense, he’s no slouch either as one of their lengthy guards on their press defense.
Team Charlotte
Tristan Maxwell – 6’3 – Guard
I spoke on 2020 guard Tristan Maxwell last week about finding his stroke and this past weekend, he certainly had that going for him in Team Charlotte’s two games. Maxwell shot the ball efficiently from behind the arc and when pressed, he got to the rim and finished with ease. He’s an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on.
Anjay Cortez – 6’4 – Wing
2020 wing Anjay Cortez was a new face off Team Charlotte’s bench this past weekend and he used it to his advantage. He didn’t score in bunches, but when he was on the floor, he made his presence known on both ends. He’s a long, wiry wing player that can defend and get out and run the floor for easy buckets.
Juice All-Stars NC (Stephenson)
A.J. Thompson – 6’4 – Guard
A.J. Thompson is a versatile guard at 6-foot-4 and for Juice All-Stars, he tends to handle some of the point guard duties. It’s not a bad task for him as he’s learning to be more aggressive with the ball in his hands. With his length and strength, he can get to the paint and finish with relative ease. He’s drawn recent interest from Barton College and Ball State.
Saiquone Harris – 6’6 – Wing
Saiquone Harris is a 6-foot-6 wing player, but much like A.J. Thompson, he’s capable of handling the basketball at his size. He’s a threat on all three levels to score and when he gets to the paint, he’s finishing above the rim. An underrated player that coaches will want to keep an eye on.
Christopher Nobles – 6’7 – Wing
Christopher Nobles is another player that roams the wing for Juice All-Stars NC . Nobles can get out on the fastbreak with quickness and finish above the rim, something his teammates were keen to use to their advantage. He’s also a relentless rebounder and defender.
Kharye Cayne – 6’10 – Center
Kharye Cayne is one of those big men that literally blocks everything in their presence. Cayne showed off his quality shot-blocking skills time and time again
Mekhi Townes – 6’6 – Power Forward
Mekhi Townes has earned the nickname “Big Fundamental” from me simply due to his intelligent use of his size in the post to get easy buckets. He utilizes a number of spins and up-and-under moves to maneuver his way to the basket effortlessly. Certainly a player coaches want to keep an eye on.
Tay Williams – 6’8 – Power Forward
Tay Williams is an emerging prospect off the bench for the Juice All-Stars NC . He’s on a healthy “Dunk everything” diet when he touches the basketball in the paint and it got the notice of many scouts in the gym before it was all said and done. He’s also got a nice touch on his jump shot which he’s developing.
Team Renegades (WV)
Ethan Clay – 5’11 – Point Guard
Point guard Ethan Clay is one of those heady point guards that looks to make plays with the ball in his hands at all times. He’s smart off the fastbreak on getting to the rim or getting it up to the floor to his shooters.
Andrew Shull – 6’1 – Guard
Andrew Shull is a pure shooter that isn’t afraid to take over the game on offense with his sharpshooting ability. He showed off his efficiency from behind the arc in numerous games whether off the catch or off the dribble. He’s keen on making plays for others when needed and plays well within himself and his abilities.
NL Disciples Elite
Jamarii Thomas – 6’1 – Guard
Jamarii Thomas is a gritty point guard on both ends that isn’t afraid to get physical on both ends. His defensive energy sets the tone for the rest of his teammates and as a result, they feed off of him. Thomas is working back from an injury, but didn’t show any signs of slowing down other than a knee brace.
Kuluel Mading – 6’10 – Center
Kuluel Mading is a raw talent on offense but on defense, his rim protection is A+. He knows how to frustrate the defense with his size and as he learns to put it together on offense, look for his stock to grow.
Carolina Crossovers
Dequandre Newman – 6’1 – Guard
Dequandre Newman is the definition of a prototypical big guard. He’s listed at just 6-foot-1 but with his size and strength and ability to finish above the rim, he’s hard not to notice by the time the game is over. On numerous occasions, Newman got to the rim with relative ease and showed off a nice mid-range shot.
Alex Webb – 5’8 – Point Guard
Alex Webb is a floor general with tons of IQ with the ball in his hands. He’s not a shoot-first type but can knock down the 3-ball when needed. When running offense, he’s not trying to overdo it but instead looking to make the easy play. Athletic and strong guard for his size at 5-foot-8.
Foothills Legacy
Bryson Hosclaw – 6’5 – Forward
Big man Bryson Hosclaw is a bear on the interior, especially on the offensive glass. On numerous occasions when his team needed a big basket, he was working down low to find rebounds and keep his team alive in the game. He’s a hard worker on the block that teams definitely want to give a look.
NC Spartans East
Cason Pierce – 6’8 – Forward
Cason Pierce is a confident player that is able to get his shot from anywhere on the floor. He can shoot the 3-ball as well as finish strong against contact in the paint. His efforts on the boards though, are his most underrated trait. With his size, he should certainly start getting some looks from scholarship schools.
