Northstar Q&A: MN Heat Vang 17U
This is the second of five installments of our Northstar Hoops Q&A series, aimed at getting to know our Minnesota 17U teams a little bit better. Here we chat with Connor Nord, assistant coach for Willie Vang’s 17U Minnesota Heat team. Nord is an assistant at Macalester College as his day job, and helps out with Heat during AAU. He’s a Minnesota hoops guy through and through (went to Eden Prairie and then St. Thomas), and was gracious enough to spend a few minutes talking about his squad.
Alex’s Take: it’s another Heat team under excellent leadership. Park Center shooter Josh Brown should be a rising prospect as a long shooter who will take a much, much bigger role for the Pirates in the fall. Tait Nelson (St. Anthony Village) and Taylor Moberg (Champlin Park) are both smaller, quality guards who can go off in a hurry. Nelson averaged 20+ PPG at SAV and will be a lot of fun to watch as a senior. Doffing is a guy with good size who comes from yet another good Prescott (WI) group. Wolter is a defensive specialist who competes at both ends. The other guys seem pretty solid; I just need to watch more. I think Willie and company put together another high-quality Heat team with smart players.
