Mid Ohio Classic Standouts:
• Kalen Etzler (6’8” / PF 2021 / All-Ohio Red 16U / Convoy Crestview): Etzler is showing more and more of a well rounded game. Hot off a State Championship, Etzler played well in the game I caught. Skying above the rest for rebounds, using his length to advantage. Also, the sophomore was money from deep, spacing the floor well. Able to run a fast break, Kalen showed good decision making in route to the rack.
• Jalen Blackmon (6’1” / CG 2021 / All-Ohio Red 16U / Marion, Indiana): Jalen was a load to handle on the court Saturday. The junior guard put the ball on a string, and made defenders look silly trying to stay with him. Making great decisions with the ball, also the big time scoring threat. Blackmon did his damage from deep, off the dribble. Going for 10 straight points at one time, Jalen was a bucket that couldn’t be stopped. The sophomore does a great job of creating his own shot, and space. Big time talent.
• John Hugley (6’8 / PF 2020 / All-Ohio Red 17U / Brush): Hugley absolutely dominated his opposition this weekend. Smart movement inside, and to the hoop, the big man was on a mission. Able to work above the rim catching a lob, or dunking on a defender, Hugley was just to strong. Very capable passer from the forward spot, Hugley can get the ball downcourt in a hurry on a rope. Above average court vision, also factored into that. The Brush standout was just on another level of his opposition.
• Trevell Adams (5’10 / G 2020 / Hidden Gems Black / Columbus South): Trevell Adams is a continuing riser every evaluation. Plays hard all the time, and can go get his own bucket. Adams was a bale to finish acrobatically at the rim, around bigger defenders. Changing the game on defense, per usual, the blocks were there. The South Bulldog is a player that D1 coaches really need to take a long look at, as he continues to improve.
• Marcus Johnson (6’4” / WF/F 2020 / All-Ohio Red 17U / Columbus South): Marcus Johnson is super athletic, and shows that every time he’s on the court. Ability to play above the rim, and contest shots at the rim are great showings of the bounce Marcus has. Uses his length to sky above for rebounds, just out working the player across from him. A double-double threat more often then not.
