Head Coach
Head Coach: Gerrik Schepel
Coach Schepel has coached 10+ years of AAU while being involved with multiple NBA training camps as well as on staff at Western Michigan University for 3 seasons. He is very passionate in creating quality student – athletes on and off the court.
Player Overview
Drew and Cameron Chandler: “Lengthy/athletic wings both with high ceilings and knack to score. Best offensive attribute is the ability to shoot the long ball. Great in transition! Keep on eye out for “the twins” from the Hudsonville area.” – Coach Schepel
Tyler DeGroote – “A 6’6” beast with the ability to score downlow, as well as stretch the defense out with his range from 3. It is not uncommon to see Tyler hit a few threes in a row, then throw down a two-handed jam. Great talent with already a college basketball body.” – Coach Schepel
Ethan Dunn – “A D1 recruit standing at 6’9” coming from East Lansing Ethan has about as high as a ceiling as anyone in our MBA program. With great hands and credible experience, Mr. Dunn will without a doubt make a lot of noise for college coaches his remaining H.S. seasons.” – Coach Schepel
CJ Jones – “A strong lefty with an aggressive mentality. Unstoppable attacking the rim and finishes well in the half court and transition. Provides a needed GRIT for our 15s.” – Coach Schepel
Jack Karasinski – “A 6’5” wing with explosive athleticism and the length of a 6’8” player. An impressive slasher who can create off the dribble as well as get out and run in transition. This golden boy will for sure throw a few down this season so get your cameras ready.” – Coach Schepel
Kellen Mitchell – “A skilled crafty 6’4” wing with about every tool in his toolbox to help a team win. Kellen can create for himself and others while also being able to finish around the rim with touch and both hands. Don’t give him too much space however, he will drill the 3!” – Coach Schepel
Jake Peterson – “The toughest kid on the court at all times! One of the best on ball defenders in the greater Grand Rapids area with a very high IQ and impressive handle. Jake appears small; however, his Pitbull mentality has a large impact on his team’s success.” – Coach Schepel
Brandon Schepel – “A sniper from the outside with a very high IQ. Although he can hit 5+ three’s on opponents from anywhere, his handle and ability to drive makes him nearly impossible to guard.” – Coach Schepel
Scott Stockwell – “Strong and hard-working are a few things that come to mind when speaking about Scottie. A passionate yet skilled wing that provides a spark to an already impressive group!” – Coach Schepel
Caden VandeBerge – “Another 6’4” talent wing with the ability to bully down low while also sweep step right by opponents from the outside. Caden has a knack for attacking the glass yet has soft hands finishing with either. Caden can create for himself and others, to top it all off he has an impressive 3-point stroke.” – Coach Schepel
Owen Varnado – “A 6’4” leader that can bang down low as well as hit from beyond the arch. A matchup nightmare with his size and strength mixed with skill and knowledge. Pick your poison when defending Owen.” – Coach Schepel
Outlook
This team has a ton of talent on the wing. MBA 15u National has versatile kids with good size. They have shooters and a dominant player in the post. They will be a very tough matchup for any opponent all spring and summer. MBA 15u should be a on college coaches radar during grassroots season.
