The state of Georgia is a very big state and college coaches cannot be everywhere at once. Here we take a look at which Georgia prospects deserve some much needed attention and who should receive that attention during the live period this AAU season.
2021 W Matthew Cleveland of Cambridge High School (pictured)
Probably the most interesting prospect coming into this AAU season was 6-foot-6 wing Matthew Cleveland out of Cambridge HIgh School in Milton, Georgia. Matthew is a unique talent with tremondous upside sitting at 6-foot-6. He is a lenghty wing with very long arms and holds a solid body frame as a sophomore. He holds great athleticism and strength and utilizes it well against the smaller opponents. Matthew can run the floor well and is a fantastic finisher at the rim. Coming into the live period, Cleveland’s offers are from Georgia, TCU, Georgia Tech, and Florida State. With his intriguing size, Matthew will certainly catch college coaches eyes when he is on the floor. Matthew is running with Hype Hawks this AAU season, a non-shoe sponsored program.
2020 W Eugene Brown III of Southwest Dekalb High School
The 6-foot-6 wing Eugene Brown III is coming off an injury that kept him out for most of his junior season but is expected to make a full recovery and be available to play this AAU season in the Nike EYBL with Athletes of Tomorrow (GA). Brown III holds offers from Clemson, Xavier, Butler, Mississippi State, Appalachian State, and others up to this point. He might still be considered an underrated prospect nationally in the loaded 2020 class. He is an elite on-ball defender and has very accurate timing on his blocks and steals. Eugene holds long arms and uses that to his advantage. He also has become an extreme perimeter threat with his shooting stroke and now has the ability to spread opponents defenses.
2021 PG Peyton Daniels of Tri Cities High School
Peyton Daniels, for now, is just a household name in the state of Georgia. Coming off a state championship run with Tri Cities High School, Daniels is now looking for some much deserved attention during this year’s live periods. The 6-foot-2 combo guard has a few of the elite tools locked in his DNA already as a sophomore. He holds two offers right now from James Madison and Georgia. Daniels is a score first guard with fantastic ball handling skills. You can consider him a pure scorer and he is definitely an elite shot maker with somewhat range from beyond the arc. A 2021 prospect who can receive that national attention shortly running with SE United (NC) in the Adidas Gauntlet 16U.
2020 G Caleb Murphy of Norcross High School
It has been a solid start this AAU season for 6-foot-4 combo guard Caleb Murphy with the Atlanta Celtics. He is what you call “a real steal” for any college program. Caleb plays at his own pace and is always poised when he is on the floor. He is a playmaker on both ends of the floor and could also be that hustle guy, tone setter for his squad and will bring the energy. Caleb is capable of knocking down jumpshot from basically anywhere on the floor and is an incredible on-ball defender. East Tennessee State, Tulane, Arkansas Little Rock, and other schools have been involved with the recruitment of the junior combo guard up to this point.
2020 PG Eric Gaines of Lithonia High School
The 6-foot-2 point guard Eric Gaines will be making his debut with Team United (NC) this weekend in the only spring live period. Eric is part of the loaded 2020 class we have in the state of Georgia and could be considered under the radar or even underrated. He holds a slim and slender body frame but also holds high level athleticism and explosiveness for a point guard. His only offer up to this point is from Georgia State. Gaines could open a few college coaches eyes throughout the spring, summer as he can definitely put the ball in the basket. He can score from many levels of the floor and has great bounce when attacking the rim.
2021 PG Danny Stubbs of Pebblebrook High School
The sophomore point guard Danny Stubbs is one of few prospects I expect to breakout this spring, summer. The 6-foot-0 point guard is becoming one of the top elite players in his class in the state. Stubbs is coming off a sophomore campaign where he had to mature quicker than others after taking responsibility for the point guard duties at Pebblebrook. He does not hold any offers just yet, but after this weekend, or even after this AAU season with the Atlanta Celtics 16U squad, that can certainly change. Danny has shown great improvements on his jump shot and his confidence coming into this spring, summer has been on a whole other level. He holds suprising athleticism and is actually a great defender.
2020 C Dylan Cardwell of Oak Hill Academy (VA)
The Georgia native, Dylan Cardwell, is coming off his junior season at Oak Hill Academy (VA) and where they finished the season 31-5 and making another appearance in the GEICO Nationals. Cardwell is a 6-foot-10 big man who plays with an outstanding motor for a prospect his size. He will be running with Athletes of Tomorrow (GA) on the Nike EYBL circuit alongside stars Sharife Cooper and Brandon Boston Jr., so he should be receiving the attention from the college coaches. His only offers right now include Tennessee, Georgia, and Penn State. Dylan brings stellar energy to the floor, especially defensively. He is mobile, holds good hands, and could be considered a rebounding monster on the glass.
2021 SG Garrison Powell of Holy Innocents School
One of the state’s top players in the 2021 class, Garrison Powell, does not receive the attention he so well deserves just yet. Powell plays with such aggression every time he is on the floor, almost like he is just angry with anyone who steps across from him. He has great size and muscle tone as a sophomore shooting guard, sitting at 6-foot-3. Only schools that have offered him up to this point are Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee, and Mississippi State. Powell has raised his level of play since entering the AAU season. He can attack the basket whenever he wants to offensively and is a very good on-ball defender with active hands. The attention should be received for the young sophomore soon enough. Powell will be running with Game Elite (GA) 16U this AAU season.
2020 SG Toneari Lane of Shiloh High School
It has been a splendid two weeks for the 6-foot-5 shooting guard Toneari Lane and at the right time with the only spring live period being this weekend. He has impressed over the last two weekends at the Adidas Gauntlet Qualifier in Spartanburg, South Carolina and at the Tip Off Classic here in Atlanta. You can tell he has been working on his shooting range before the AAU season with the Atlanta Celtics. Lane holds incredible strength at his position and overall just knows when to shoot his shots. He is a solid on ball defender and can finish inside the paint as well besides knocking down jumpers. Schools like St. John’s, TCU, Ole Miss, and others are involved in his list of offers up to this point.
2020 G Caleb Byrd of Rome High School
Georgia Southern, East Carolina, Navy, Mercer, and others have already offered the 6-foot-0 point guard out of Rome High School. Caleb could be considered the most underrated guard in the 2020 class here in the state of Georgia. If you are looking for a prospect that is going to hit shots, especially when it matters, Caleb Byrd is your guy. Besides his shot making abilities, Byrd is a hustler player and somewhat a dog defensively. He has also been impressive over the last couple weeks alongside dynamic point guard Kadarius Johnson of Game Elite (GA). Caleb will consistenly compete at both ends of the floor and will certainly open some eyes during the spring live period this weekend.
