All of the major shoe circuit teams, as well as talented independent programs will be competing for a chance to earn some scholarship offers, and Prep Hoops breaks down seven guys who we could see boosting their stock during the live period this weekend.
Jonathan Davis (6’5 2020 G, Wisconsin PGC)- Davis was one of the nation’s best kept secrets for a while, and is starting to become a known commodity on the national scene. Having already held an offer from Wisconsin, West Virginia and Minnesota have stepped into his recruitment, and he could add to his list of high major offers this weekend in Kansas City. An athletic guard prospect, Davis is capable of exploding to the rim, and is also a knockdown mid-range shooter. He shines on the big stage and is known to step his game up against tough competition. The best guard in Wisconsin’s 2020 class, look for Johnny Davis to make some noise in the live period.
Tyrese Hunter (6′ 2021 G, Phenom U)- Another explosive guard, Tyrese Hunter is one of the most exciting players in Wisconsin’s 2021 class. An extremely athletic player, Tyrese has one of the most impressive verticals you’ll find, and at 6′ is capable of throwing down some explosive dunks. More than just an athlete, Tyrese is crafty around the rim and can finish in a variety of ways. He’s a solid shooter from outside, and is a great facilitator when attacking the rim. He earned his first offer as a freshman from Grambling State, and recently added a second from DePaul. With many other D1’s showing interest, he’ll have the chance to impress them in person this weekend on the Nike EYBL circuit.
Logan Jedwabny (6’2 2020 G, Wisconsin Blizzard)- Jedwabny burst onto the scene during the high school season with Kaukauna, averaging an impressive 17.2 ppg in his first year stepping into a major role. Though still looking to pick things up in terms of his recruitment, this AAU season he could see his stock rise immensely. He’s always been a good shooter, and has developed into a guy who is capable of creating his own looks off the dribble. When attacking the rim, Logan has an effective spin move to finish with either hand at the basket. He’ll look to impress some scholarship level schools this weekend with his advanced offensive skillset.
Kobe Johnson (6’5 2021 G, Phenom U)- One of the most intriguing prospects in the class, Kobe’s height is starting to catch up with his skill-set, and he’s starting to put all the pieces together as a scary good player. After a big growth spurt as a sophomore, Kobe now has plus-size as a point guard, and plays with patience on the offensive end. He can act as a distributing guard, but is also able to go and get a bucket on his own when called upon. He has an early offer from DePaul, and could attract some more in the near future as a lengthy and intelligent guard prospect. He’ll form a lethal backcourt alongside Tyrese Hunter running with Phenom U in the EYBL.
Cameron Palesse (6’4 2021 G, Wisconsin PGC)- Palesse is one of the more versatile prospects in Wisconsin’s talented 2021 class, running the point for Waukesha West during the winter, while being capable of playing on the wing as well. A capable scorer who can get to the rim or knock down threes, Cam also excels as a pass-first player who averaged 4.5 assists per game as a sophomore. He’ll be in Kansas City on the Under Armour Association this weekend, where a handful of Division 1 schools plan to watch the lengthy and versatile point guard.
Max Klesmit (6’3 2020 G, Wisconsin Blizzard)- Klesmit had a huge season over the winter with Neenah, leading them to the state tournament behind his 24.3 points and 4.8 assists a night. That breakout year as bolstered his recruitment as he is now hearing from a mix of D1 and D2 schools heading into the live period. Capable of playing both guard spots, Klesmit is the type of player who does whatever his team needs to win, and whether that be putting up big scoring numbers or feeding the hot hand, Klesmit has the skills needed to do so. He forms a dangerous backcourt alongside Logan Jedwabny for Wisconsin Blizzard, and he heads into the live period looking to produce at a high level.
Jacob Ognacevic (6’8 2020 F, Phenom U)- Jacob’s recruitment has absolutely taken off after a huge high school season with Sheboygan Lutheran. He now takes on the challenge of competing on the EYBL with a loaded Phenom U squad that may be the best 17u team in the nation. His ability to get a bucket inside and rebound at a high level has seen him pull in recent offers from DePaul, Indiana State, and Milwaukee, and it appears that list will only grow longer from here on out. A double-double machine, Ognacevic travels to Atlanta to take on likely his toughest competition to date during the opening weekend of the Nike EYBL.
