Winning a state championship with Brookfield Central in 2018-19, Joplin helped the Lancers claim the first gold ball in school history while averaging a near double-double on the season.
“It was great,” Joplin told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “Being the school’s first state championship was really cool. The atmosphere was great. All of our fans came up. Playing on the bright stage was special.”
Even more impressive, the Lancers rebounded after losing their leading scorer late in the season.
“We knew a lot of people were doubting us,” said Joplin. “We just kept working hard in practice and we knew we could surprise people.”
While Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Michael Foster grab most of the headlines in Wisconsin’s 2021 class, Joplin has quietly been a solid Division 1 recruit. Joplin has early offers from DePaul and UNLV.
He says he has the most contact with Marquette at the moment.
“They’re just looking at me and watching me,” he said. “I’ve been to a few games. It’s a nice campus. The atmosphere is great with the new building.”
Iowa and Ohio State have also expressed early interest in Joplin, who averaged 17.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season. While he plays more in the post during his high school season, Joplin will transition to the small forward position this spring/summer and try and showcase some new sides to his game.
“I think that’s what I’m best at, especially in the open court,” he said. “That’s what I’m going to try and show this summer.”
Joplin has no early leaders in his recruitment and plans to take his time with the process.
“Definitely want somebody who wants me and fits my play style,” he said. “A coach who can develop me.”
