Continue ReadingAlmost the entire Prep Hoops DMV group, along with other Prep Hoops members, made the trip down to Atlanta together for the first live period to attend the first session of the EYBL. With that, we all decided to watch different games so we could cover the most prospects possible. There will be a lot of write ups, but I can only refer to the players I saw. Since there’s a lot of them I’ve broken them up, and here’s part one consisting of 17U players.
Cam Thomas | 6’4” WG | Boo Williams 17U
Thomas followed up his big Friday outing with another big scoring performance in a win over Mokan Elite. He showed his takeover ability in the game, as he scored just five points in the first half, but scored the first five points in the second half and never looked back. He showed his great range hitting multiple threes from beyond the arc, and he showed his great footwork he needed to create space off the bounce on the way to scoring 26 points in the win.
Aminu Mohammed | 6’6” WF | Boo Williams 17U
There’s something to be said about a guy who may not have the best shooting night, but he still works hard and is productive in a number of ways for Boo in their win over Mokan Elite. He didn’t get off to a good start shooting, so he started to attack the rim and even when he missed his shots he would follow his own miss. His mix of athleticism and high motor bold well as he is continuing to improve his skill set as well. He also was active and played hard defensively, and he finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds and six assists.
Zion Harmon | 5’10” PG | Boo Williams 17U
He was once a boy wonder who was a seventh grader playing on the EYBL, and now that he’s older you can see the maturity in his game. The 5’10” point guard isn’t the biggest or most explosive guy, but he’s unbelievably smart and skilled, and while he’s a perfectionist who may be hard on himself, he’s a guy who makes an impact on both ends and as a dual threat point guard. He can shoot out to 30 plus feet with ease, he changes pace well off the bounce and he has great vision and passing ability. He finished with 18 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds in their win over Mokan.
Mark Williams | 7’1” C | Boo Williams 17U
Let’s put it this way, it’s getting old writing about Williams because he’s been so good recently that we have to write about him over and over again! Even without the big numbers, which will be tough for him to put up with all of the perimeter scorers on the team, he still has been great as a guy who alters shots and owns the paint, runs the floor and hits the glass and plays hard even when he isn’t touching the basketball. The more you watch him the more you love him, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start to pick up more and more offers from schools all over the country.
Mike Foster | 6’8” F | Mac Irvin Fire 17U
If you want to talk about some pro potential, Foster has a ton of that with his ability to play inside and out and his terrific skill set at his size. At 6’8” he not only can shoot the basketball at a good clip, he can also create shots with the ball in his hands with stepbacks and pull-ups off the bounce. He’s big, strong and athletic, and he’s a guy who’s a walking mismatch who will fill it up and hit the glass as well.
Jaden Ivey | 6’2” G | Indy Spiece Heat 17U
The Purdue commit was in attack mode all game for Spiece who had a terrific comeback win against Boo Williams. Ivey was especially impressive as a guy who could turn the corner or hit you with something tough at a high speed and leave you in the dust. He’s a tough finisher with the ability to score it in traffic and through contact, and he has a middle game and the ability to hit from deep off the catch too. His competitive edge and takeover ability were on full display as well.
D’Andre Davis | 6’6” WF | Indy Spiece Heat 17U
While he made a couple of boneheaded plays late, Davis was a big reason that Spiece was able to pull off the win. Throughout the game he used his athletic ability to make plays that others simply couldn’t, including some big time finishes above the rim that brought some much needed energy for them throughout the comeback. He’s a good rebounder and has the ability to be a lock down defender as well.
Nijel Pack | 6’0” PG | Indy Spiece Heat 17U
Pack isn’t one of the top options for Spiece, but when the shot clock is running down or he’s in a one-on-one situation he showed the ability to create and make shots off the bounce. He showed a good pull-up and the ability to stop on a dime to create space, he got to the free throw line and put pressure on the defense as well. He’s a high IQ guy who can make plays for himself and others.
