Continue ReadingAlmost the entire Prep Hoops DMV group made the trip down to Atlanta together for the first live period to attend the first session of the EYBL. With that, we all decided to watch different games so we could cover the most prospects possible. Adam and Houston both have already put their standouts out, so without further ado here’s a look at my standouts from Friday at the EYBL.
Cam Thomas | 6’4” WG | Boo Williams 17U
With Boo Williams in a dog fight at halftime against Howard Pulley out of Minnesota, Thomas turned it up another notch in the second half and showed why he’s considered one of the top scorers in the country. After scoring just five points in first half, Thomas scored 8 of Boo’s first 10 points in the second half and continued to pour it in, finishing with a game high 23 to help them to a 71-53 victory. He showed deep range off the catch, the ability to change speeds and create space and get to the free throw line as well.
JT Thor | 6’9” F | Boo Williams 17U
A 2021 that’s playing up on a super talented Boo Williams team, Thor is oozing with potential on both ends of the floor and he’s just scratching the surface with how good he can be. The 6’9” lanky forward is extremely versatile on both ends of the floor, as he’s able to handle and shoot the basketball and also guard multiple positions with his great feet, length and athleticism. He still needs to learn the game more but his mix of talent, motor, measurables and potential on both ends makes him a legit five star prospect. He finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 7 blocks and 3 steals in their win.
Jordan Battle | 6’2” G | Boo Williams 17U
Battle didn’t wow anyone with big time stats or anything but he came off the bench and provided a big spark when BWSL needed him to. While they trailed Howard Pulley late in the first half, Battle came in and went for 6 points on 3-for-3 shooting and chipped in on the glass and as a playmaker as well. The Swiss-army knife of a guard finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds and four assists according to my stats.
Mark Williams | 7’1” C | Boo Williams 17U
The big man in the middle got in some foul trouble at first, but he came in the second half and dominated the way we expected him to. He was a force in the middle using his insane wingman to contest and alter shots, but he also uses his length to deny the post and force deflections as well. He finished over the top of smaller defenders, and he showed the ability to finish through contact around the basket. He finished with 10 points and six rebounds after playing almost none of the first half.
Terrence Clark | 6’6” G | Expressions Elite (MA) 17U
Expressions two best players were both 2021s playing up, and Clark showed that he’s not only going to be a highly touted prospect at the collegiate level but he’s also going to be on draft boards here very soon. He has all of the measurables of an NBA wing right now outside of strength that will come, he has a good understanding of the game in all facets and he’s a smooth yet athletic scorer both in the half court and in transition. He showed all of the moves going for an impressive 24 points and snatching 7 rebounds in a blowout win over Team United yesterday.
Moussa Cisse | 6’9” C | Expressions Elite 17U
The other 2021 that made a huge impact for Expressions, Cisse is a guy who still has a ton of room to grow but his athleticism and ability to play above the rim on both ends is already impressive. He’s strong and mobile yet bouncy and long, allowing him to move without the ball where he can just catch and overpower people in the lane for easy buckets. He played hard on both ends for the most part and after a tough first half where he struggled with foul trouble he turned it up to finish with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Josh Banks | 6’2” WG | Team United (NC) 17U
An under the radar kid from the Charlotte area, Banks put coaches on notice last night with an impressive scoring performance in which he did a little bit of everything. He got hot in the first half after hitting a few threes, and once the defense started to close out on him hard he was able to attack the closeouts and get in the lane where he could score at the rim or get to the line. He showed the entire repertoire, along with some dog and grit on the way to scoring 20 points in their loss to Expressions Elite.
John Butler | 7’0” C | Team United 17U
This kid is the definition of intriguing because he has so many things you can’t teach but still has a lot of things he needs to work on moving forward. Butler is a long and lean big man who excels as a rim protector and defender, where he can wall up in 1-on-1 situations in the post and either block or alter shots with his long wingspan and good timing. Offensively he’s still a work in progress but he does hit the glass well and finish above the rim, just needs to continue to work on fine tuning his skill set.
Dain Dainja | 6’9” PF | Howard Pulley (MN) 17U
Dainja was a danger to all in the post because he has the ability to outmuscle almost anywhere, but he’s also super skilled and understands the game well. At 6’9”, 260 lbs. he’s a load in the post and he’s able to seal and finish with both hands, and he also has the ability to score in one-on-one situations in the post. The surprising thing was the way that he could handle and pass the ball as well as he can take care of the ball and find cutters and shooter as well. He finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a loss to Boo Williams.
Trejuan Holloman | 6’1” PG | Howard Pulley 17U
A freshman that is playing up on the 17U EYBL Circuit, there’s a reason because Holloman not only has an advanced skill set and understanding of the game for his age, he also is a guy who will defend the length of the floor and is a tough player as well. He competes and gets after it on both ends, showed a good pull-up in the lane and was poised and aggressive, something you like to see out of a young guard.
