While we all ended up watching the big games toward the end of the event together we all had our own opinions, some shared and some differed, on what we saw. As I usually do, I will be breaking down who I found to be the most impressive from the games that I watched. Here’s a look at part two of Jack’s standouts from the event.
Zion Harmon | 5’10” PG | Boo Williams EYBL 17U
Harmon is a 2021 who is playing up for the fourth year on the EYBL, and is now back on Boo Williams after playing with them as an eighth grader. At 5’10” Harmon isn’t the biggest or the most athletic guy, but he’s a super talented shot maker who can create his own shot, has range out past the NBA line off the step back and he has a good midrange game as well. He was impressive as a playmaker and on the defensive end as well where he showed natural instincts and a good understanding of the game.
Aminu Mohammed | 6’5” WG | Boo Williams EYBL 17U
Mohammed was the WCAC leading scorer as a freshman when he was at Carroll, and while he moved to Missouri he still is ranked as a top 20 player in the country and is now back playing with Boo Williams again, this time on the EYBL group. The 6’5” wing has a mix of athleticism, skill set and a great motor that makes him super productive in a number of ways. He can score from all three levels, he hits the glass on both ends and gets after it defensively, as he showed the most intensity and best motor of the talented Boo Williams group.
Mark Williams | 6’11” C | Boo Williams EYBL 17U
Many questioned how Williams would fit in with this BWSL group and all of their dynamic perimeter scorers and whether or not he’d even touch the basketball, but in their two games against UA opponents Team Thrill and WeR1, he finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and 21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks respectively. The 6’11” big man did a great job of protecting the paint and altering shots in both games, he showed good mobility and ran the floor well and even when they didn’t give him the ball he went and got it off the glass. If he plays this way during the EYBL he could see a big recruitment uptick that may even include blue blood programs.
Jahmir Brickus | 5’10” PG | WeR1 17U
When I asked around about this WeR1 team I kept hearing Brickus’ name come up, so when I arrived to see the smallest guy on the court I was a little bit puzzled. However, it didn’t take long to see why everyone likes the guy. He has a poised and toughness about him that makes him an easy leader. He’s a strong kid with great body control around the rim, he can create for himself and others and he doesn’t back down from any challenge. He’ll be a high major target out of the Philly area this summer.
Nahshon Hyland | 6’3” G | WeR1 17U
An available senior, Hyland looked like one of the top available guards I have seen since the season ended. The 6’3” guard has good length and good quickness, he lived in the paint off the bounce where he could make plays for himself and others and he showed a toughness and go-getter attitude you like, He competed on both ends and was pivotal in their offense as a guy who could do a little bit of everything.
David Jones | 6’4” F | Boo Williams 16U
Jones was probably the biggest standout for Boo, and while it’ll be tough to gauge what level he should be able to play at he is still a very fun player to watch and a guy you’d love to coach. In their win over New World in their first game, Jones led the way with a double-double, and grabbed 9 of his 10 rebounds on the offensive end. He’s athletic, strong and plays with a high motor, and once he continues to improve on the offensive end he’ll be tough to match up with.
Kanye Clary | 5’9” PG | Boo Williams 15U
A small but dynamic point guard, Clary’s ability to create space and blow by defenders is second to none with his tight handle and great shiftiness off the bounce. He’s a one man press break who lives in the paint, has great vision and passing ability and is a dog on both ends of the floor. As he continues to get bigger and stronger, he’ll be a guy who coaches will love moving forward.
Efrem Johnson | 6’3” WG | Boo Williams 15U
One of their better all-around scorers on the team, Johnson showed his ability to fill it up playing both on and off the basketball and he did so at an efficient clip. The 6’3″ guard has good measurables and a go-getter mentality, and he showed that as he hit from behind the arc, got to the tin and made the right play throughout their matchups. The Western Branch combo will be one to keep an eye on moving forward.
